I totally get the feeling younger. I feel that way myself. I have noticed that I can go longer & harder now.

Hope to hear more about your hiking adventures. We are going back to Wyoming & South Dakota to do some hiking this summer, but I would really like to hike the 3 National Parks in Washington state next summer. Crater Lake is on my list for someday.

Here's what I did in July. On average it was just a bit less than what I normally do. Not by much, though. I'll take it.

BTW: I really enjoyed my 12 day vacation - lots of walking & hiking in the beautiful PNW. While technically "overweight" I am fit as a fiddle. It is such a switch to have others be the limiting factor. I could have and would have enjoyed doing more hiking than we did.

That's the way it is with me. We didn't do a full trail camping last weekend because the teens were tired/bored. I could have kept going and going.

I so like being the leader of the pack, not the one bringing up the rear. My youngest Kel really enjoys hiking. She is also the fittest of my 3 daughters. When hiking is easy it is a lot more fun.

Speaking of Kel, she left last Friday for her senior year of school at GMU. I will miss my workout buddy. In last April's 10K I was sure that she was going to cross the line first. She was bound and determine to beat Dad this year. She didn't. I passed her after the 5th mile and cross the line 45 seconds ahead of her. Since then she has been 'hell bent' to make sure that she beats me next year. He's been training hard and plans to continue while back at school. She finished that April 2019 10K in 67 minutes. The last few 5K runs that she did this summer were under 28 minutes. If she keeps that up we may both get what we want in the 2020 Richmond 10K. She will leave me in the dust and I will finally hit my goal of doing a 10K in less than 60 minutes. To do that I need to lose 20+ pounds. Between now and next spring that will my primary goal. Keeping up with regular low intensity cardio will be a priority, too.

Here's what I did last month. The totals sagged a bit over the previous month. There is a reason, though. September was hot and humid, but it was dry. I traded some of my workout time for doing landscaping & yard work. Hoping for a cooler and dry October. I still have plenty of yard work to keep me busy.

I really could use some rain and cooler weather. We can't mow because our grass is sparse and crunchy now. It would murder our lawn. We're getting bald spots.

After all that heat the cold is finally here. We didn't get much of transition period, did we? At least I've got some grass seed to sprout just before all the leaves came tumbling down.

Here is my October workout summary. It was a little disappointing that I didn't get the bike out, but like my hiking trips I planned to ride -- it just never seemed to work out. At the end of the month the Y I go to closed for renovation and it will remain closed through mid November. I'm taking a time out from jogging while still getting my 10K steps in each day. I've got lots of yard work to keep me busy. I had 4 trees in the back yard taken down recently. I opted to keep & split the wood -- and clean up all the branches myself. Why pay someone else to do it. Lopping up branches and swinging an ax are both good workouts.

Well done for October. Bummer about the Y being closed, but you’re right. Swinging the ax will be great exercise. Plus you will have visual satisfaction of a job completed.

Great workouts, indeed!
About the weather, we're just nothing but swinging back and forth from extremes lately. We may get snow here in Appy TN on Tuesday.
