I believe this may be regional.
I was just in Alby's. $3.99/lbs. for pork shoulder versus $1.99/lbs. for the same cut at other large chains like Safeway here. 100% markup over competitiors? No thank you, I'll take the time to travel two miles further down the road and still save money.
The only thing I buy at Albertson's any more is cream since they're the only one to case it in the quart size and for substantially less than anywhere else. Oh, and "hot" canned (when fresh are out of season and I've emptied the freezer) green chiles - only place I've found 'em as well.
