Default Did anyone try that preparation H thing?

There was a post on here a while back on using preparation H on your problem areas to temporarily get rid of unwanted water weight. I wouldlike to know if it worked or if it didn't.

I've never heard of that! Weird!

I've heard of using it for under eye bags, and well...the use for which it was intended, but that's it!

There was a lady on Oprah last week who said that her doc recommended Prep H to keep her wrinkles away. She had beautiful skin. I remember the trumpet majors in college used it on their lips ( ???LOL??? ) seriously. Talk about kissing your ass. It doesn't surprise me that any area can be treated with that stuff. There once was a cream made of aminophylline that was used to rid the body of cellulite ( around the mid to early 90s ). Aminophylline is normally used for upper respiratory problems.

Unfortunately, it's only the Canadian version of PrepH that works. The US version lacks the active ingredient, bio-dyne, which is an oxyen-bearing yeast derivative.

Apparently Conan O'Brien and other stars discovered that it reduced the bags and puffiness under their eyes before show time. Word got around, and soon the FDA came after the PrepH company demanding they cough up the studies to prove these claims of skin tightening. Well, the PrepH company never made those claims, it was just word of mouth from people using it. So ... the PrepH company removed bio-dyne from the US product to avoid being charged by the FDA. However, bio-dyne is still in the Canadian version.

You can read more about it here .. Only In Canada.

p.s. - I keep a small tube in the medicine chest and yes, it does temporarily reduce puffy bags under the eyes, and also reduces redness of the occasional zit, as a spot treatment.

When I worked in the theatre industry, this was incredibly common... and yes, it does work to diminish bags under the eyes.

I was the one who ordered it from Canada. It did not work as well as I had heard. It did work well under my eyes. I have used it when my eyes were very puffy in the morning after salt and it did take away the puffiness. I bought the cream so it did not smell or was not greasy.

I guess I would but it for my eyes, but not my stomach.

The FDA allows deadly meds to be prescribed to patients everyday. Yet, they throw a fit with Prep H? Ugh...

Apparently the bio-dyne is also called LYCD (Live Yeast Cell Derivative) so it is possible someone has put it into something else in the US. I'll have to look for it. Otherwise, there is an internet site selling it for $16.00 a tube!

I noticed that on the site I linked to also. What a rip-off! I checked again, and that's $16 US, plus s&h. In stores, it's $11-12 Cdn, which is roughly $9 US.

Good idea to see if it's in some other product

It's not that the FDA banned bio-dyne, it's just that the PrepH company figured it was less hassle to take it out of their product, rather than doing costly studies to prove it had effects for which it was never intended.

Here's one product: http://woundcare.org/newsvol6n1/pr17.htm
And another... $50 an oz! http://www.grekinskininstitute.com/rp/nss.html

The Prep H is starting to look like a good deal!

Sounds like it would work. Although I don't normally have bags under my eyes, I'm wondering if we could try it on other parts of our body to help reduce puffiness. Bellies? thighs? LOL

I'm guessing it removes puffiness by causing water to drain out and it probably can't move all that much water out. So whatever effect it had you could see in a relatively small area like your eyes, but not in a larger area like... a limb or entire body part.
