Anyone heading to Akron for Founder's Day weekend this coming weekend?

Anyone ever been there?

I've gone several times, and it's almost like a religious pilgrimage for me! I used to think I was grateful...but each time, I've come back with so much more gratitude and enthusiasm that I realized I didn't know anything about gratitude!...it's just overflowing! A new perspective on gratitude!

It's so fantastic to see happy, joyous, and free sober people from all walks of life and from all over the globe! How wonderful is it that we got an undeserved second chance?!

Meetings all day and night...discussion panels on every topic imaginable (really!)...the visit and meeting at the Mayflower Hotel...Dr. Bob's House and the Archive...the Big Meeting on Saturday night...Amazing Grace being played on the bagpipes at Dr. Bob's graveside...

There are like 5,000 Harleys there...it's like Sturgis for the sober! You wake up on Sunday morning because the ground is vibrating from all the bikes lined up for the cavalcade to Dr. Bob's grave.

There is just no way to express my enthusiasm for the event! I encourage everyone to try to attend...you'll return a changed-for-the-better person having experienced it!

I can't believe I was clueless that it's this coming weekend. If I had more time I would have planned to go. Seems the hotels are all booked now...

I'd love to go someday. It's one of those things I keep thinking, " I want to go THIS year."

Maybe next year....

Cool

Welcome staceyoa

Glad to have you here with us! You're not alone . Addictions migrate. When I got clean and sober, the food which had been a sort-of secondary addicton became the attempted cover-up for uncomfortable feelings for me too. It's that way for a lot of us, I observe. So it's not the substance, although that does create its own unique problems, it's the feelings underneath. That old refrain. Peeling the onion until you get to the layers that make you cry, right?

Sometimes people are a little more hard-core sounding than I think they realize. It's a lot to sort out when you're brand new . Just take what you want, and leave the rest !

Keep the faith, Girl!

thank-you polly,
i feel suddenly 'home' having found this thread.
i got thru yesterday.
overate on lc a bit but didnt go off plan or binge.
feeling ok today.
sometimes i wonder if trying to control my weight and food is another addiction getting warmed up..anyway l/carbing beats bingeing any day.

i would like to stop bingeing and obsessing about my weight more than i care about losing weight..if that makes sense.

i have never been really very overweight anyway.my stat above are me at my heaviest..but i am tall at 5ft 9.
but if i carry on bingeing i will eventually get obese.

i have seen others in aa go that way.
they put down the booze and swell up!

that was me...i put down the booze and a lot of other things and behaviours and i put on 20 lbs
i put down cigarettes 6 months ago (smoked 30 to 40 a day!) and i put on another 20 lbs!!!
40lbs gain!!!
thats what finds me here.

any advice would be welcomed for all of you friends of b w
xxs

I've been sober 13.5 months, but my eating disorder has been kicking my ass the past 3 months. I have a binge disorder. Introduced sugar back into my life a couple (?) of months ago. Huge mistake. Forgot how much I was a food addict after 3 years of low carbing.
So you are definitely not alone in this thing...cross addictions abound...

Stacey, you may want to start a journal to talk about what you are going through, log food etc. I talk in my "gym log"
But vent here too - it helps others going through the same thing.
