People like Jillian Michaels have no credibility and there's absolutely no reason to listen to her, so I don't nor do I read anything that's written about her views. Why should I be interested? I know that this world is filled with vested interests whose primary concern is filling their own pockets and enhancing their own reputations. Thank goodness there are still people like Nina Teicholz, Gary Taubes, Tim Noakes, Eric Westman, Sarah Hallberg, Andreas Eenfeldt, and many others. I've given up reading crackpot views.

I'm opposed to her antiquated dieting methods, I admire a person with hypothyroidism that keeps themselves in great shape and a healthy weight. It is definitely harder to do.

None of the people in my family are overweight or have diabetes, they are that rare group that can eat anything and maintain. It is not the majority, the modern world works against the healthy diet and makes ketosis a necessity to keep us strong in the face of all those carbs.

Last night, NBC News had Jillian on the Keto Diet.... Eat a Balanced diet, common sense cutting out all carbs a bad idea....blah, blah....

Then Al Roker (an NBC employee) tweeted:

Quote:
Al Roker

So ~JillianMichaels says #Keto is a bad idea. This from a woman who promoted on camera bullying , deprivation, manipulation and more weekly in the name of weight loss. Now those sound like bad ideas

My respect for Al Roker just increased. Well stated, Al. Jillian Michaels has a documented history of not treating people well. Unfortunately, she's adding to it. I agree with Jean and pay little attention to her. We tend to see these attention grabbing headlines more and more in the midst of dietary wars, but underneath it all, it's a signal of a poor health epidemic with many racing to cash in on the latest fads. I believe the current nutritional knowledge available challenges gimmicks like the Biggest Loser, as the approach no longer has credibility. I never watched it, but sad to say there's a reason it was so popular for a period of time.

Edit: for clarity

She kept showing up on my news feed from many news outlets, but similar headlines. I had to look her up (haven't watched tv in almost 40 years) & wasn't impressed. I don't like bullies.

Besides that, she is either very stupid or is deliberately mischaracterizing keto/low carb. She seems to think they are zero carb - has she never heard that vegetables have carbs?

Breakfast this morning was spinach & eggs - easy, tasty, & low carb, but not no-carb.*

*Added: with butter!

Apparently that Jillian/keto piece is hot right now. I checked one of my usual sources of laughs and this is what I got: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTO6BC5vXek

Then in the related videos, I got this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5qxVVKvQ9k

Note how they both refer to The Biggest Loser and how Jillian is most famous for that. Scott's good for a laugh, Barry is a bit more respectful of Jillian, but both are pretty good for serious counters.

I only ever watched a few episodes of Biggest Loser but what I saw was shocking. It was the year Tara was one the show. That woman was beautiful and she won every single challenge because she kept herself strong (and heavier) by mentally resisting the abuse. She was an inspiration but not because she became the skinniest. She lost the show because of that.

It's a sick show.

I've only ever seen snippets of the show, but it always seemed to be more "blame the fat person" than "how can we help?". I saw lots of yelling, lots of exercising and little food/nutrition. As I've read about the show lately, it seems that any "success" was short lived. The system Jillian advocates, eat (a lot) less and move (a lot) more, is not practical as a starting point and not sustainable as a maintenance plan (who has time for that level of exercise??).
I certainly don't consider her any kind of expert and think her opinion of my WOE is as valuable as t*ts on a boar hog.

There was a lot of "don't eat your feelings" kind of advice which drives me up a wall - there are emotionally balanced fat people. I liked Tara because she wasn't about wallowing. She just wanted to win.

The reality is that level of exercise would be very hard on the body. Professional athletes who train like that take naps in the middle of the day and also accept that they will have wear and tear and injuries. I remember people on the show talking about how they would have to cheat on food in order to not pass out doing the training.
