No, I haven't heard anything. Just reading that article true or not is enough to scare anybody out of using it. I don't use it much, but I will certainly think twice next time and keep my ears peeled to more news on the subject.

Yikes! this is scary stuff. I'm not going to use Splenda anymore & I need to kick aspartame too. I was successfully off aspartame this summer then the stress of Sept 11 had me guzzling diet sodas again. You know .... sweets as solace for the soul.

The funny thing about this, actually not so funny, is that I've been commenting to friends & colleagues that the synapses in my brain are fried because of some recent meds. Me memory is poor and I'm nervous about how much work related stuff I've forgotten in 11 weeks on sick leave. I've got an extremely detail oriented job. Keeps me interested but is challenging when I've been on leave.

I've gotta kick this nasty chemical sweetener habit I've developed and adopt Rachel & Karen's attiutude. They refuse to feed their "sweets" habit and instead eat unprocessed "real" food. Thanks R & K for being good role models!!

Okay I read this article. It seems the bulk of his evidence comes from rat studies and anetdoctal reports of people "losing their minds" and having severe intestinal food poisoning like syndromes...all from Splenda.

Alright, first off the rat studies. How much sucralose did they feed these rats? I'm assuming massive doses. It would be interesting to find out exactly how much.

These supposed letters from "sucralose survivors". These are a bit incredible for me to believe. Are they from real people or manufactured for the purposes of making a point?

I guess my point is...I'm skeptical of reports seen on websites like this. It looks to me like a big ploy to panic people...situations that I've seen many times before on a venue as large as the world wide web. Unless I see it on the evening news, I'm not buying it, and I will continue to have my two Splenda packets in my coffee in the morning.

My two cents..

It's good to be aware of the concerns and controversies ... and make informed choices. Nothing is perfect, even sugar can kill us. And Stevia has its share of detractors too ... the Eades (Protein Power) claim that the bitterness of stevia can stimulate insulin, therefore should not be used.

Once again, moderation is key.

Similar stuff has been documented on all artificial sweeteners as well as sugar. Any powdered white chemical when used in excess can be toxic. Making informed choices as Doreen said is the key.

Going from sugar to AS is replacing one addiction with another...

Default They will have to peel it from my cold dead hands!

Give up my Splenda? Then the low-carb lifestyle would instantly turn into a DIET. Then life would just be too plain and I would need Frito-Lay to bring zest back into my life. Not a chance... I'll just take it in moderation!!! Nutr-Sweet gives me the brain fog and sacharin just ruins whatever you put it in.

so take it with… a grain of salt.

Perhaps that should be with a pinch of Splenda?

Default Can't get it

Okay,
I have been shopping for splenda for the last 3.5 weeks. Now, it isn't that all the grocery stores don't carry it, and believe me there are a lot of stores here in the Twin Cities, but all the shelves are empty of it. The UPC labels and takes stating the price is there, but every size of splenda is gone. Is there just a shortage of it? Or is everybody using it that they can't keep it in stock. Not once has there even been one package on any of the shelves.

Strange

Cindy

I am having the exact same problem with no Splenda boxes on the shelves. I even asked one of the managers at the store what was up and she said she would check into it --- they haven't restocked the shelves in about a month now, but like you the upc tags are still there and manager said that usually means that it is still available. I will be curious to see what is happening with it when I go in again this week!

ROFL Rachel, that was too funny! Two of my favorite "dangers" of DHMO were:

Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere

and

Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits

Too too funny. Makes you think though that some people have WAY too much spare time.

Default Wow! No wonder it is banned in UK

Now I understand why Splenda is banned in UK. We tend to be a little more wary of any effects of substances. Strange that aspartame and saccharin is readily available in the UK.

I wonder if Mrs Yogi is not right to use honey in small amounts once a week for sweet treat?

After all sweetener must be the ONLY "product" I am using as I feel quite strongly about "products" not being in the user's best interests as the profits of the maker are always in conflict.

Certainly moderation ... a pinch of splenda, as Karen states ... is the key until my present stock is used up.
Take care

I have to agree. That site is huge! Did you see the research section and surveys!! I'm surprised they didn't state the objective or the message (other than fighting DHMO)!

I liked "Inhalation of DHMO can cause death"
