That Douglas Markham book must totally misrepresent Atkins: absolutely, it's okay to eat lots of veggies. Even people on the most strict phase of Atkins eat 3 cups of veggies every day, and it increases from there. Generally speaking, vegetables are meant to be the main source of carbs on the common LC plans.

Kristine's right, fishstick, but you have to be smart about your veggies. 10lbs of avocados do not equal 10 lbs of lettuce, dig? Calories and GI factor do count. Im not counting veggies, but am sticking with salad veggies, some sketti squash, some cauliflower. And at 120 lbs, what are you worried about?!

In my plan--unlimited leaves and stems, limited roots and fruits. In the event you are being botanically accurate, you may be halfway there, but plenty of things show up on a list of vegetables that are actually fruits. Where the plant stores energy is where the carbs are.

All that said--it still comes down to calories in the end. It's just that LC adjusts the way your body uses them. If you're eating more than you need, you won't lose. If you're not, you will. Up your exercise if you don't want to give up the foods.
