Question I thought fresh cheese was "okay"

I lost 10 lbs very quickly (6-7 days) on the Atkins diet, and then came to an abrupt halt for the last 4 weeks. ZERO weight loss. In hopes of breaking the plateau, I switched to Carb Addicts diet for 4 days (someone suggested I try that), and then back on Atkins. No change. Phooey.

After researching Atkins further, and trying just about every other suggestion around, I have finally realized that I certainly fit the profile of someone with a candida overgrowth to a T - big time (According to what I have read on the internet and in books.)

I have ordered oil of oregano to use in helping to eradicate the problem. I also performed the "spit test" mentioned elsewhere on this forum. Even though it was in the middle of the afternoon, my saliva looked just like she described. (Interesting note: Being a skeptic at heart, I made my healthy 6 yr old son do the same test, and his saliva didn't clump or tentacle out like mine did - you could barely see his in the water. Hmmmm. Maybe there IS something to the test)

Anyhow, I thought you could have "fresh cheeses" , like cream cheese, or mexican fresh cheeses, cottage cheese, etc. I'd love some feedback on the cheese issue.

Also, is there a list of "no no foods" for Candida somewhere that I could refer to?

And can anyone suggest EDIBLE yeast free "fake bread" products? Also, is it okay to use Spenda products and Stevia?

I'm not new to low carb, but am to the Candida apsect. ANY advice, insight, or recommendations are sooooo welcome!

suredid, about the only help I can offer you is a link to a page that I have bookmarked dealing with 'all things candida'

http://www.panix.com/~candida/

There are some good links contained w/in.

Best of luck,
Nat

Hi Suredid,
Dr Atkins gives a list of foods to avoid in his book.
Just look up "yeast" in the index.
From memory, you need to avoid mushrooms and soy sauce and you can only have mozzarella or cream cheese.
I was thinking of doing it but don't really think I need it.
I haven't heard of the "spit test". What do you do? (Apart from spit )
Good luck, Suredid.

Default spit test

Somewhere else on this forum, somebody said that you should spit in a glass of water when you first woke up (before eating, drinking, brushing).

If your spit clumped, and then sort of grew tentacles (looked like a jellyfish), then you probably have a yeast issue. If it reached the bottom of the glass, you probably have a pretty good yeast problem.

I was skeptical, but there WAS a difference between my spit and my son's.

Makes ya wonder.........
