Here is Dr Westman's plan as it was added to a good book I recommend often by Gary Taubes, Why We Get Fat...and what to do about it.

Here's the what to do: https://www.dietdoctor.com/se/wp-co...starch_diet.pdf

This is based on what Dr Atkins used in his clinic, not the plans that ended up in the books. No calorie counting, really not even carb counting. Foods that are easy to over eat were just removed for the clinical trials. No Nuts, no nut butters, no alcohol, just whole real meats, veg, and very limited amounts of dairy.

So i have this straight....

So your husband is "abusive" by suggesting you do a bare minimum of daily excercise....

and he's thin and youre fat?

And.....you interpret this is "jumping around" ?

....which means you should divorce him or "Ignore him" ?

uhm......

okay.

Lets reverse genders here....

He lays on the couch all day, you work and keep yourself thin
with low carb...

and when you suggest he do a BARE MINIMUM of excercise he replies:

"thats abusive. I cant do anything. Im divorcing you".

Why don't you listen to THIS thin person and hear that she can do her thing, her way, so it WORKS for her, hmmmm?

Her husband should leave her alone and so should you.

I am not going to judge whether he should have said this or not. But I will judge the message. I think weight loss has nothing to do with exercise but I DO think that fitness is important. It's important that you don't get tired after fifteen minutes of any kind of exercise so I am kind of with him there. Waiting to lose weight to get fit is a fool's game. You need your health now. Your husband wants a wife who is energetic and can keep up. I teach swimming and I teach a lot of adults who breathe heavy just walking down the stairs into the pool (mostly thin, BTW). But you don't need to jump around like Jillian Michaels to gain stamina. Just don't wait on being thinner to get fitter. You may wait forever.

When you're heavily under the influence of carbs - when your metabolism is completely messed up, it's not unusual at all to have absolutely zero energy for exercise. There's barely enough energy to drag yourself through the minimal effort to get through a day.

Under those circumstances, starting out with 15 minutes of even very easy exercise is still commendable. Until you get your metabolic issues under control with diet, that may very well truly be the limit of your exercise abilities - and you shouldn't feel bad about it.

Another factor is that most people who have never been overweight have no idea just how much strength (and therefore energy) it takes for someone who is carrying a lot of excess weight just to walk for 15 minutes. If you put a 100 lb weight on the back of a naturally thin person, and expected them to go for a 30 minute run, they'd be exhausted within a few minutes.

While my husband didn't understand my food issues (but supported me in OA & low carb), he did understand this! Which is good because when I was over 200 lbs I couldn't walk very far & would quickly run out of breath. I could run out of breath just crossing the room quickly to answer the phone!

Now it's reversed & because of his age & heart problem, I'm the one who can walk faster & farther.
