Is there a way to turn off e-mail notification of updates to subscribed threads, but still see your updates in the User CP section on the forum?

Go to the User CP, select "View all Subscribed Threads" and then select the threads you don't want to receive email notifications on. Then in the " Selected Threads" drop down box on the bottom right after all the subscribed threads and select "No email notification". The email notifications will stop, but the threads will still show up in the User CP.

Is there a way to set options to get those results?

Click either Quick Links or User CP tab from the green menu bar above, then choose Edit Options. Scroll down a bit to the Messaging & Notification section; there you can set the desired Default Thread Subscription Mode. Don't forget to hit the Save Changes button at bottom of the page

Just to note .. this will only affect new threads in which you participate after the change is made; you'll continue to get notification of previous threads. There are several methods to stop or change those notifications ..

1. go to User CP and follow the steps as outlined in HelloKitty's post.
2. Or .. go to any of the email notices; at the bottom of the message you'll see a clickable link to unsubscribe from that specific thread or from ALL threads.
3. Or ... when viewing any thread, you can subscribe/unsubscribe by clicking on the Thread Tools tab at the top of the first post in the thread, then select Subscribe to this Thread.

Thank you, Doreen. I thought I had done all of that, but I seem to either end up with subscriptions to threads, which just means I have to spend time deleting them, or I got e-mail notifications, which I had to spend time deleting. Since I'm in and out here every day, all day long, it isn't necessary for me to have e-mails or subscriptions. But I never could figure out how to get rid of them both at the same time!

I carefully followed the directions you listed, so maybe it will work now.
