Default opnions on Walgreens/CVS True Track meter

I bought this meter after gettign the diagnosis of IR. My MD didnt tell me to get one I just wanted to know my numbers, which are between 103 & 149 daily. I am now questioning the wisdom on using a generic meter on something as important as my BG tracking. I went with this one because it was the least expensive(free with the purchase of strips(50 US dollars per 100)) and I dont get reimbursed thru insurance. I am testing about 8 times a day so a box doesnt last that long right now.
My Question is can I trust the accuracy of this inexpensive meter or would I be better off biting the bullet and getting a namebrand meter or am I OK with what I have just to track trends?
TIA,

I think the generic meter is fine.

Do you know about taking vitamin D, cal/mag, GTF chromium, cinnamon, and gymnema sylvestre when you have diabetes?

Divided into 2 doses
7,000 IU vitamin D
1800 mg calcium/900 mg magnesium
400 mcg GTF chromium
800 mg gymnema sylvestre leaf
750 mg cinnamon

Most meeters come with test solutions (labeled 'high' and 'low') that you can use to verify the accuracy of your meeter and/or test strips. I've never seen or used the meeter you're referring to, so don't know if it came with test solutions or not.
Your A1C reading seems to be pretty close to the numbers you're reporting, though, so it would seem accurate to me.
The main idea is to track the trend of your blood sugars, not necessarily a precise number. Keep written records of what you eat and note the effect on your blood sugars. Watch for trends in either the upward or downward direction (are your blood sugars generally getting higher or lower over a period of time).
Make one change at a time and then note the effect before making another change (that would include adding or stopping any medications or supplements).

thank you for your replies. I think I'll keep the one I have & not worry.(which probably raises BG as well)

I think your meter should be fine, but if you want a new one, I just bought a one touch ultra 2 for $75, and it has a $75 rebate. It will be free once I get the rebate. My strips are covered, and I think they are more expensive, but I love them. I used to have a meter that took 30 sec. and needed a huge drop of blood. My current meter takes 5 sec. and uses a small drop.

If 8 tests a day makes you feel good, keep it up. I test between 3-6 times a day. You might cut back a little to save money and still have enough data for peace of mind.

Being A Diabetic Can't U Get A Discount On Cetain Meters. I Was An Idot For Many Yrs. And Then A Nurse For The Diabete Center At Our Only Hospital Here Told Me To Call The Ins Co. And Find Out. She Gave My Husbad And I A One Touch Ultra. And The Tet Strips Are Discounted, 100 Are 56.00. I Wanted A Better Meter, I Have Had Lots Of The Cheapies And The Number Reading Were Always High. Not Good Mixed With Med's. This One Touch Is Great, Has Graphs And Alot Of Other Stuff.

I've been using the True Track for 3 months but am losing faith in it - here's why:

Lab random glucose = 83 (during hypo-feeling incident at docs)
Meter at same time = 85

Lab fasting glucose = 70
Meter at same time = 87

It checks out against the control solution and the battery is ok. I just don't like that it was nearly dead on against one lab and 17 pts off on the other.

I recently sent for a free One Touch Ultra 2 (after rebate will be applied) to cross check it. They currently have a promo going on - go to the Lifescan site and it will refer you to places you can buy it and get a rebate for the cost of the meter.
The strips are a lot more expensive than the True Track, though I've heard the Ultra is supposed to be a lot more consistent.
