Dusting off, spiffing up, and getting ready for all the traffic that is expected after Tuesday.

If you are new and reading this, welcome.

Come, read, ask questions, take a breath, and be ready to be astounded if you stick to the plan.

I think the %progress alters automatically once you change your current weight to a number lower than your starting weight.

If you are one of those who likes to math your way through your weight loss journey (like me) I have the following posted to my journal:

I use a number of tools to help me stay on track with my weight loss journey. One of these is the Dr. Jan Kwasniewski Due Body Weight Protein ratios for best weight loss: C/P Ratio: .8 and F/P Ratio: 2.5 to 3.0

DWBP=Height in cm-100 (I am about 160 cm tall)

60 g protein (60 x 4 = 240 calories)
48 g carbs (48 x 4 = 192 calories) (.8 protein)
150 g to 180 g fats (150 x 9 = 1350 calories to180 x 9 = 1620 calories) (2.5 to 3.0 protein)

DBWP total caloric intake 1782 calories to 2052 calories
________________________________________________

On top of that I include the Ketogenic Ratio:

Ketogenic Ratio (when ketones become really visible on a test strip): 1.5

The ketogenic ratio formula is:

(fat x .9) + (protein x .46)
(fat x .1) + (protein x .54) + carbs

Using the above protein, carbs and maximum fat, the ketogenic ratio = <1.9!!!
________________________________________________

I'm not sure which source I used for the ketogenic ratio but it works. Google ketogenic ratio and you'll see what I mean...

So, for me at least, adding a tablespoon or three of mayonnaise helped. As I'm just getting back into LC WOE, I thought I'd share what I just figured out!

It really is about the carbs! But don't overdo the protein. And whatever else, take in enough fat!

I love this idea! I am going to start with small goals like this to help me develop good life habits! I also really liked what you had to say about not rewarding yourself with food. I am terrible there. That always seems like a great reward to me. I do see that it is just another rationalization and excuse. Thank you for the lightbulb!

Default Weight gain???

Newbie here...Started August first and lost 5 pounds the first four days! Then I lost 4 the next 2 days! I was doing great. Then suddenly I have gained 4 of those pounds back. I didn't cheat at all!

I tried to keep my carbs to 0, but had a tbsp. of catsup on 2 ground beef patties and chunks of cheddar cheese which I haven't heard anyone talk about.

My keto sticks still indicate my ketosis is moderate.

What did I do wrong?

Nothing - weight lost that quickly probably isnt fat, its going to be water and bloatedness - which really isnt important in the grand scheme is it!!

What really matters are the inches lost, so keep on with it all and try not to expect too much too soon. The weight/inches will come off, be patient lol!!!

Thank you so much! Never thought of that! Here I thought I was doing so well. Kind of a bummer, thinking I could lose 10 lbs each week! Now back to reality....

Just bought Atkins book (1981) and his workbook. Will work on it religiously.

I personally wouldnt do it - I dont see food as any sort of "special treat" anymore. It will probably take a week to get back on track!

ughhh thank you for your honest opinion, and I know your right. even after 3 weeks I am thinking/feeling cravings for the things I truly ADORED like mashed potatoes and past, really slipping away. I was just trying to find some "insurance" thru the group so i would feel better if i caved. ughhhh the truth hurts but thats why I am here after never being in this kind of a group before...a blog? right? haha..Thanks again

Best Tips for Starting Low Carb

Repeating this post here to keep it in the sticky.

In honor of the start of "Diet Season" two long-established and highly respected low carb writers have posted their best tips today.
Dr. Michael Eades of Protein Power fame has gathered all his articles on basic low carb information from past years in one place, and linked them here: http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/...w-carb-dieters/ This is a real treasure trove!

Dana Carpender, cookbook author, blogger and editor of CarbSmart, has summarized her best tips on starting Low Carb all on one page. http://holdthetoast.com/content/wel...-world-low-carb

Both should answer many questions for newbies, or returning friends, and help you with the initial adjustment on your road to good health. All the best,

Jey, those links aren't working. I'm trying again for you:

Dr Mike's tips

and

Dana's Top Tips

Because I agree, there are great tips here! My favorite, from Dana:

Quote:
* Years ago, a friend who was low carbing told me she just couldn't eat sugar-free dark chocolate, it gave her terrible gut trouble. I said that I could eat half of a modest sized bar per day with no trouble. "Half a bar?!" came the reply, "I've been eating 5 or 6 bars a day!" Uh, I think I see your problem here.
