Default glocophage and very low carbs

Hi Everyone,

I don't have PCOS but my daughter does. My Dr. just put me on Metformin for insulin resistence but when I try to do low carbs (like CAD) i really don't feel very well. If I eat an apple or some low glycemic carb, it makes me feel better. Do those of you on metformin have to have more carbs than atkins or CAD?

Thanks,
Grandma (in may 2003)

Default Advice from my doctor

When I was on glucophage, my doctor told me that Atkins may be a bit much. At the time, she suggested that the best diet was to always divide your plate in quarters. 2/4 of the plate should contain a protein, 1/4 of it fruit, and 1/4 of it a non-starchy veggie. While this is not too far off of from Atkins maintenance, it may be helpful, and quite useful!

Default Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks Chris,

This is just about what I had deduced. Glocophage doesn't seem to mix with extremely low carbs. Anyone else have experience with this?

Thanks everyone.

My doctor told me to eat less carb that protein ( we were discussing body for life,) I feel pretty good on SP and haven't seemed to have much trouble. I actually feel better.

Try the Zone Diet- I take 500 MG Glucophage twice a day and eat in "the Zone" I feel great using this diet. Basically 30% Protien, 40 % Slow acting Carbs and 30 % monoun saturated fat.
It works for me. Look for Barry Sears books about the Zone diet.
It works for me. Good Luck!
