Default Perinatologist changed my due date

According to the ultrasound - where we saw the heartbeat! - my little poppy seed is only measuring 6 weeks, so they changed my due date to November 7th, 2005 as opposed to the October 30th I thought it was. I also had my HCG's done on Friday and yesterday - first was over 11,000 and the second was over 21,000. So, it seems that all is moving along. Just not as far along as I thought. My blood sugar numbers jumped on February 10th - and I figured that meant implantation had occured. Not sure if insulin resistance associated with pregnancy will begin AT conception or AT implantation. My last mentrual period was January 23rd. Not sure what to think of the changed due date at this point. I'm just so very glad that we got to see our little poppy seed's heartbeat. U/S tech said it was at 130 bpm and that was a good thing.

Just wanted to update.

Sounds good so far! Wasn't it cool seeing the heartbeat? Just wait until the ultrasound where you can actually see the little lizard; make out body parts, etc. I really loved that, too.

Hi there,
I just found out I'm expecting also the End of October, right now the due date is October 30, but I figure it could be as late as Nov. 5. I don't seem my doctor until next month. I have a 10 month old and I low carb during my last pregnancy lost weight during it, (I have since gained way to much back, so I'm going to have to figure out how to stop that with this one.), I ate roughly 90-100gms of carb a day. I did have gestational diabetes, so I did the best I could to keep my sugars below 100. That was my goal, going with Dr. Bernsteins book to have blood sugars around 85. I'm not sure that Ketosis is bad for the baby, but you have to remember that the kidneys are in development so it can be hard on those developing kidneys. I think the real concern with Ketosis is more that it can mask Pregnancy induced Hypertension, or perhaps even have a false postive for it. It will have to be a symptom that the Dr. will have to discount. With my last baby I also drank Low carb milk, and ate lots of plain whole milk yogurt, and cheese. That seemed to help. I also ate very little fruit, mostly just berries, and pineapple. I lots of almonds. Don't tell people you are low carbing, with all the veggies you are eating they will think what wonderful eating you are doing, for that baby, I bet they won't even notice there is hardly a "carb" on the plate. If you told them you were low fat eating with all of that stuff they would think nothing of it.
I would love to keep up with you and make you a buddy if we could. I have really needed a buddy since I had Kendra, and now that I'm expecting I could use a friend to keep in touch with.

Hi there again,
Just finished reading this page. I have the same problem with my dates, that is why I figure my due date could be as late as the 5th. The question is for me, how far apart are your cycles, for every day longer than 28 days you add another day, so that could be the difference, it is possible and sounds like it that you ovulated later than you thought, and it is even possible there that conception in even up to 24 hours later than that. So it is all based on that. For me I can't remember exactly the first day, and my cycles were starting to lengthen out to around 31-32 days. I hope that all makes sense. As far as gestational diabetes, that usually is depended upon the hormones that the placenta produces, I usually start feeling the effects of it about 17 weeks, even though testing is generally a few weeks later than that. It could be possible that energy requirements and other hormone fluctuations could cause the blood sugar spike.
I just thought I would stop by.

Default Update

I'm now 20 weeks pregnant. I had an OB appointment today as well as one for a Level 2 U/S at the hospital I'll be delivering at. My new OB is great.

My belly is measuring 23 weeks, but I'm fat so what can I say. Heartbeat was 146.

Level 2 U/S went well. Baby is growing great, looks like everything is where it should be and doing it's job. He/she is measuring at 21 weeks, so just a little over where I am gestationally. He/she is head down, too. We aren't going to find out the sex.

I'm not currently taking insulin. I stopped taking that after some really bad hypos a couple of months ago. Tonight I started taking Chromium again. My blood sugars after meals are fabulous, but my fastings are still high, and I'd like to avoid insulin as long as possible.

So far I've lost 23 pounds w/ this pregnancy. Currently 292. I am really hoping to get under 275 by the time I deliver this baby. According to what I've been told, I could get down as far as 250 before delivery. That's 20% of my pre-pregnancy weight lost.

I'm not following a low-glycemic plan to the letter, and I'm sure that would have some impact on my fasting blood sugar. I'm trying though.

Anyway - that's my update. Baby is great, I'm good. I'm trying to get better.

Melissa

Hi there:

During my pregnancy last year I was eating controlled carb at around 100g a day. When I had my second fasting glucose test, 26 wks. or thereabouts, my blood sugar was over 200. I could not figure that one out because of how careful I was being eating and never have had problems with blood sugar.

I posted in my journal and got this answer:

I hope it makes a difference!

I had asked my midwife if how I ate could affect my blood sugar and she wouldn't listen to me about how I controlled everything. She just saw a fat person and thought I stuffed everything into my mouth. UGH!

So I ended up being referred to special hospital for high risk pregnancies, meeting with specialists and a nutritonist. When I spoke with the doctor there, armed with this information and examples of how I ate and why, he seemed to agree that the blood sugar test was off because of the lower carbs. Another doctor I met with there, said they tell their patients to eat more carbs for a few days before the test. The doctors and nutritionistl were happy with how I was eating also. My A1C was 4.7, so how were they thinking I was diabetic at my local hospital.

This little bleep caused me to have to commute to a hospital that was over 1 hr. drive away several times, 7 blood sugar tests at day for two weeks and every other day after that for the rest of my pregnancy even though my blood sugar was totally normal and stable.

The perks were that I got to see my son several times in ultrasound, was very closely monitored (I had eclampsia the first time around) and now I have an wonderful, healthy almost one year old boy.

Best of luck to you.

PS. I never had ketones in my blood either.
