Default Candida in penis?

My first girlfriend used to get a lot of yeast infections. After her and I broke up I basically became impotent. A few years later I started to get minor pain in either my bladder or urethra and a constant feeling of liquid being in the tip of my penis. I went to a urologist and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. Can this actually be candida? And if so, will the candida diet get rid of it? I'm miserable.

Man, I feel for you. I have never had these issues, but a little research came up with this:

http://www.malereproduction.com/15_prostatitis.html

Quote:
Other organisms such as Chlamydia and Ureoplasma which are difficult to culture on routine media are known to cause prostatitis. Herpes simplex virus and cytomegalovirus have been found in the male genital tract. Fungal prostatitis can be caused by Candida, Cryptococcus and Aspergilla.

I'm not sure how much you want to disclose, but it sounds like you might need to rule out Chlamydia, herpes, etc.

Surely the doctor ran further tests and didn't diagnose generic prostatitis without figuring a cause? I take impotent to mean you are unable to have children with your current partner? Either way, impotence and prostatitis seem to be pretty serious things to possibly get from candida, plus, I doubt her yeast infections had anything to do with what you have.

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm not a doctor, just a good Googler.

I don't know if this is any help or if it only confuses the issue but, back in the early 60's I used to get a lot of yeast infections and, every time my doctor put me on the meds of the time, he also put my husband on some kind of meds to protect him from any spread of the infection. Do they not do that anymore?

Hi Tom,

As glendarc said, Candida can affect that area and is tranmissible between partners. My husband has had it from me when I had yeast infections which were not completely symptomatic and so sexual partners should be treated together ideally if an infection occurs.

A localized infection is not the same thing in treatment terms as a systemic infection of candida, though, and so if you suspect you have both then you will need special treatment for these.

What I mean is, you could go to a pharmacy and buy a yeast-treatment cream or combination of cream and oral tablet to deal with a localized yeast infection, but this won't deal with the underlying candida problem if you have a systemic infection too in your gut or other tissues.

This is why it's a good idea to get thoroughly checked out for both. As macabrem pointed out too, there are other causes for those symptoms which need to be ruled out too, just to be thorough because candida may be only part of the picture.
