Most cook shops and the larger supermarkets sell measuring cups

Lakeland do a pretty set - pricey but nice!

Can't remember where my 'cups' came from now, had them years, but I do think a US cup is slightly different to a UK cup, as is the case with some other measurements.

I have a disagreement with the whole 8 glasses of water thing. As you begin to mobilize all the glycogen out of your body and enter ketosis, you increase renal blood flow as a ton of extra-cellular water starts to move into the bloodstream and ketone bodies dilate renal arterioles. You pee a ton. If you dring too much water, which you dont' actually needs since there is a ton in the veggies and you are mobilizing your own; then you are in the bathroom every 30 minutes (even as a young male). Finally, you can't track with keto-strips that give that awesome rush of yes, I have entered weight loss!

Thanks for the food list. It's always good to have something to refer to without having to break out my books!

Hi! I am very new at Atkins and wanted to ask if anyone has ever tried the "muffin in a minute" recipe that is given on the website (as safe for induction phase), but exchanged the flax meal for wheat bran/digestive bran. I did this, because I could not find any flax meal and it works beautifully, but am now worried that it is not allowed (because it really is delicious and feels like a sin). I figured it would be fine, seeing as both flax meal and wheat bran are mentioned by Dr Atkins as allowed to use to counter constipation. But he sugests a spoon or two, whereas the muffins has 1/4 cup in it. Can one have to much bran?

Too much fibre supplement can make things worse (on the bathroom front) if you do not drink extra water.

Depending on which recipe you are using for your MiM you might find it is just as good with only 2 Tablespoons of fibre.

Here is the one I have used with success

Thank you Elizelle!

That is indeed the recipe I've used. Great to know that it will also work with only 2 tablespoons of bran. Is this ok for induction then? If it is I'm very excited to have this as a breakfast/fibre option.

According to my interpretation of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution rules a tablespoon or so of the three supplements he suggested, psyllium husks, wheat bran or ground linseed (flax in USA) is allowed to ward off constipation, with more allowed to cure constipation.

Other people think that a larger amount is allowed, others say not to use it at all!! YMMV

Thanks again. This is also how I had it. Just helps to get confirmation from someone who has been through it to know that I'm on the right track.

Welcome to the board, Sheila!

Remember that Atkins 1972 that you have is quite a bit different to his 2002 version (DANDR) which histhread is about.

In DANDR induction is for 2 weeks (not the one week in '72 DADR)

Also in DANDR he then lists steps of the carbohydrate rung with the order in which to add different foods in 5 net carb amounts instead of just adding 5 carbs of any food you have been missing after week 1 as suggested in DADR.

Also in DADR Dr Atkins expected you to count total carbs, not carbs minus fibre as he did in his later books.

If you want to stay with the book you have we have an ongoing special thread where "veteran Atkineers" post about their menus etc in our buddies forum.
