Thanks everybody. I do think that I would have done better on the original coarse, but I wasn't going to beat my best time no matter what. I wasn't as prepared as I was last April. It's been a crazy year. This alternative run was harder -- and fun in it's own way. I did it and I'm still amazed by that.

Kel and I are trying to decide if we will be signing up for the 2021 race or not. We've shifted our workouts more towards weight training. A week or so ago we were at the school track for a 10K prep run and Kel decided to see try her hand at the nearby pull-up bar. She had never been able to do a pull-up in high school. She did 4. Kelsey was quite pumped up about that. She is in the best shape of her life and for some reason she is really getting into lifting weights. I don't mind. She has inspired me to do the same. We have been lifting regularly since May.

I think building muscle is probably a better move for me anyway as compared to running. I'll continue my goal of walking at least 10K steps in each day, but regular jogging is being placed on the shelf for the time being. If we decide to do the 2021 10K it will be for fun and a little jogging a month or two before the event should be enough to get back in jogging shape. That worked the first time back in 2016.

Default 5 years of fitness tracking

In September 2015 I bought this - my first fitness tracker. I'd used my phone step counter before that - but it only tracked steps when I had it on me. A 24/7 wearable gets everything - even sleep patterns.

I've upgraded devices 3 times since I bought this one, but I've had the same Garmin app tracking my activities and sleep for the past 5 years. I also get heart rate info on the last two fitness trackers that I've used. This is what I've done over the past 5 years...

Total steps: 28,589,018
Average daily: 15,429
Longest streak of getting 10K steps everyday: 460 days
Approximate total distance: 13,681 miles
Best 10K run: 67 minutes
Longest run: 8 miles
Longest bike ride: 15 miles
Average resting heart rate (last 2 years): 59
Sleep isn't included in the lifetime totals, but 7 hours 10 minutes is my recent average.

In 2013 I was on the verge of losing my mobility. I doubt that I walked 2K steps on a typical day back then. Things have definitely change for the better. I'm not skinny; however, I am quite fit. Now that I can move I love doing so... everyday if I can.

Here are my results from the 10K Daily Steps challenge thread for September. Interest there has fizzled, so from now on I'll be tracking my activities here on a daily basis.

September was a good month towards my goal of staying physically fit. It wasn't my best month. It wasn't my worst. What isn't represented below is my weight training regimen. Kelsey and I have been hitting the weights at the Y religiously 2 or 3 times per week since May. Starting in October I'll start logging the days that we lift weights. Up to now it has only been upper body weight training. I plan to start doing some leg work going forward.

I'm going to be hanging up my running shoes for a while. I've never had any success losing weight when jogging is part of my regular routine. The only time that I did any jogging on my 30 month trek to goal was that 4 week period before my first 10K in 2016. I need to lose some weight. Hopefully NOT jogging will help. I like walking. I like hiking. Weight lifting will make me stronger. Those are the things I'll be doing for now.

In less than 2 weeks the whole family will be going on a week long vacation in the mountains (Kassie is flying in from Oregon). We plan to do some hiking, some biking and lots of walking. We should be seeing some nice fall colors as well. Work has been crazy busy the past week. I'm looking forward to some time off.

Thanks buddy. I hope that you are enjoying your holidays.

FYI: I will be posting more soon. I just needed a break from the daily focus on the diet. I'm not weighing. I'm still eating my usual OP LC foods and trying to keep volume within reason. I'm sure there will be a price paid for this with the scale. I'm planning a diet reboot and another 90 day challenge with the new year. Until then, I wish you well these last days of 2020.

Thank you Ambulo. I've been in need of a social media break as of late. I'm still and always will be low carb, but I still have some bad eating habits to work on. So far I'm off to a good start with my goals for 2021. I wish you the best in this new year as well.
