Default Please advise

Hi, I am new to this forum and to low carbing. I have about 20 pounds to lose. My question is - it is advisable to skip phase 1 and go straight to phase 2? I have also read that grains should be avoided until you reach your desired weight, am I right? I have 2 slices of low carb bread for breakfast daily, would this inhibit weight loss?

Skipping Phase 1 is not going to do you any good. Phase 1 is there, to help your body rid you of all the toxins you been feeding it over the last few years, it is a kickstart and it helps you cut your cravings, too.
Sorry to sound harsh, but in my opinion, there is no short cut. Either do it right, or face the consequences of it not working for you.
Phase 1 is just 2 weeks, not a big deal if it can aid you in years and years of happiness and good health.
You can slowly start adding grains in starting phase 2, but it is recommended you add fruits and higher starch vegetables before you add grains. Every ones body reacts different, what might work for me might not work for you. If you see in Phase 1 that after introducing a food you gain, cut it out and wait and add something else instead.
It is very important for you to read the Book. Have you read it yet?
If you cannot afford the book new, you can always sit there and get it either from the Library or a used book store. I found the South Beach Diet Cookbook in excellent condition at the Thriftstore for 2 dollars instead of 18$ it was saying on the sticker.

Good luck, with whatever you decide.

Welcome!

Miezimau/Susanne is right.
You can do whatever you chose to do but if and when you do read the book, you'll learn why it is not in your best interest to skip phase I at all.
Not only is it about the toxins in your body, it is done to allow your blood sugar to stabilize.
By following the SBD, we are learning a new way to eat for life...its not just about a diet. Losing weight is a by product of this way of eating.

So, getting rid of those 2 slices of toast for breakfast may seem harsh to you but it is necessary for the next 2 weeks. And if and when you do add it back, it'll be only 1 slice as a serving anyway, not 2.

But the thing about bread is that it is made from processed grain even if its called "whole grain". Its still flour from grain and flour can be a road block to weight loss depending on your age and activity level. I know it is for me.

Good Luck!
