Default returning to the best diet ever

hello, I am 65 years old, was on the Dr atkins diet in the 1970s with complete sucess( lost 60 lbs).
Was on it again 3 years ago and lost 78 lbs.
Now I am returning to it because I feel so much better on it. I am a carb addict since childhood.
I now need to lose 40 lbs and stay on this diet for the rest of my life. I have no joint pain or lethergy when i stay in control of my carbs. I am an RN, work full time in a very busy ER 7 pm to 7 am. One of my DR s uses this diet very successfully and we trade information. everyone else , of course is on the low fat, work out at the gym diet. ( see almost no one with any visable sucess with this.
I need to know what the no caffiene reason is with this. I could not find the reasoning behind it in my current book. Also I have a vegeterian daughter who needs this.
Thank you,
Jeanne

I would argue that its elimination is the single most important element of any healthy diet.

Here is simple to the point explanation:
http://diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Caf...and_Weight_Gain

some more info:
http://www.caffeinedependence.org/c...dependence.html

Probably one of the hardest drugs to quit, if not the hardest. Many atkins and paleo diet enthusiasts are unable to quit due to the addictiveness (it has a similar effect on the brain as amphetamines, though of course much cheaper and accepted).

I remember reading in some interview that sally fallon of the weston price org gave where she said that quitting coffee and caffeine was the hardest thing and single most important thing she had done to improve her health.

The reason I quit caffeine was that my Dr. said it made a person crave carbs. That was enough for me. Welcome to the forums.

I agree. Caffeine is HARD to quit. I drink herbal tea now in it's place. It still gives me the hot drink in the hand. I think quitting smoking was far more painful, but I have been able to stay away from cigarettes. Coffee for some reason is just so easy to creep back into the diet.

Welcome, and good luck
I too am an RN, I work on a busy orthopedic floor from 7p-7a as well. It's tough at times, but I actually find that eating on plan and being prepared is the way to go!

Hi Jeanne. I'm Meg, I'm 64, and this is my third time on a low-carb diet. I haven't given up caffeine, but I don't get much anyway, just some weak instant in the morning. The articles Tomsey linked give you reasons, and then you get to decide how much you want to give up caffeine. I was vegetarian for many years before starting low-carb, and I still don't eat much meat. Come visit my journal, and think about starting your own.

Meg
