Default Trustbusting US protein sources now in progress

“Over the last few decades, we’ve seen too many industries become dominated by a handful of large companies that control most of the business and most of the opportunities—raising prices and decreasing options for American families, while also squeezing out small businesses and entrepreneurs,” the White House said in a statement. “The meat and poultry processing sector is a textbook example, with lack of competition hurting consumers, producers, and our economy.”

Biden Plan Directs $1 Billion To Impact Meat & Poultry Processing, Strengthen P&SA, Add New Labeling Rules

Teddy Roosevelt, (a favorite president of mine who helped found the nature conservation movement) was famous for his trust-busting. Because no one wins but the monopoly in the center, getting a giant share of the money and doing nothing but controlling the toll gate.

A serious problem in the humane animal movement is how there is no local slaughterhouse. Chickens are one thing, but pigs and beef are another. So they get trucked long miles to a plant and are dealt with under stress for both parties. All to the profits of the corporate processor, that shrugs off safety rules and were hotbeds of COVID infection in many US states.

This plan will let the farmer and rancher get more money, and in their own communities. This will put industry and employment in places where they live and work at these endeavors. All the animal handling can be humane -- all the way through the process. And encourage the shrinking of mass feedlots, which should be illegal on humanitarian, and pollution, grounds.

I ran across a statistic which stated that no more than 5-6% of the population are vegan/vegetarian. They cannot drive the lives of the rest of us.

Or we are the ones standing in line at the processed foods slaughterhouse.
