I bought the Bill W. movie about a year ago off E-bay on DVD. Loved it.

My addictions to food and alcohol were almost simultaneous - perhaps food started a year or so earlier, but not much more than that. I couldn't quit eating until I quit drinking. I've been surprised, through reading on this forum and other sites/books, by the similariities between alcoholism and carb addiction. I'm a 'poster child' for that connection. But I couldn't quit either problem until I worked the Program and found an HP.

Hey! I didn't even know this place existed! Definetly a friend of Bill'S here...but I have to ask one question?

Doen't it break with the anonymity tradition (12th tradition) to post that you are part of a 12 step program and still post your pictures?

Just asking...I've removed all my pictures from this site for this reason. I felt it was a conflict of interest. However I do believe that it is important to show my "physical" recovery and when I do post pictures on this site, I will block part of my eyes to keep my anonymity.

I do not think so myself, when I go to aa conventions people can see my face, and also at meetings, different aa sites I go too we post our pictures also. to me this is a form of a meeting and most people who come to this thread are AA members.

HI,
IMO .....because allot of us don't use our real names and/or nicknames I don't think we are breaking tradition 12.
I will ask my sponsors opinion again but when I asked her awhile back she didn't think so either.

I think anonymity means I don't break someone else's.......I can choose to break my own whenever I choose. The way I feel is that I was such a jerk, all those years when Iwas out there, never caring how I was acting, and now, I am doing something about it, so no problem.
Been clean and sober since 04/24/1993.

Well, this is not really media or film/tv/radio and we are not outing ourselves with real names as mentioned above. We are not advocating using AA or flaunting our recovery. I think the 12th tradition was set up in order to keep aa out of any controversy or to be seen as advocating anything as well as making sure all members were equal-no one is above anyone else. I don't see this thread as violating the principle of anonymity. There is an interesting article on this on about.com

http://alcoholism.about.com/library/weekly/aa980429.htm

However, I think your question is a good one and I am glad you brought it up. Once I read the about.com article, it reminded me why I am uneasy and uncomfortable when people congratulate me on my sobriety.

Hi, gang...glad to see all of you here and posting. Sherry, way to go on so much sobriety!!!!!

I agree with all the posts on anonymity. As long as I don't post my whole name and/or full address, or state my affiliation in such context. I believe I'm preserving the spirit of anonymity. Afterall, could someone REALLY track me down based on the info on my profile? Unless, of course, they came to a local meeting and found me there...but at a meeting, both of us drunks...the anonymity factor would still be in effect.

Peace and sobriety rock!
