Default What Type Of Carbs Are You Eating.....

I tried Atkins a number of times in the last 3 years, i think i wasn't losing bcos i wasn't eating enough carbs. I was managing to get in between 8-12g of carbs from mostly broccoli, mushrooms and peppers per day. This time around i've tried oatmeal, reyvita, peanut butter, and included other vegetables as well. So far i'm having about 10g per meal and i have lost 4lbs in my first week. I'm careful of avoiding carbs with more than 1g of carbs. So my question is what types of food are you eating to reach up to 40g a day? What should i be watchful of? Btw i'm nursing and using formula as well.

Hi there

I too am a nursing mother. Who said you have to have 40 grams of carbs a day? I missed that bit. I am generally only having about 15 - 30 grams - 30 grams being a rareity too. I find for my breast milk I am making sure that it is my calorie intake that is good - about 1800 a day, but sometimes a struggle. My weight is falling off but I am now thinking that if i increase my carbs a bit it might fall of faster. Is this the case?

I have been keeping my carbs around 60 in order to keep my milk production up.

My carbs are from 2 glasses of milk, berries, apple, and unlimited non-starchy veggies.

My milk supply suffers a little if I go below about 100 net carbs. Or it did in the beginning; maybe now it would be OK although I haven't tried (my daughter is 8 months old).

Truth be told I have totally fallen off the wagon lately, but when I am eating "healthy low-carb for breastfeeding," I get my 100 net carbs from milk, as many fruits and vegetables as I want, whole wheat bread, sometimes plain full-fat yogurt and the occasional potato or cob of corn. I figure milk and potatos are better than Blizzards and pretzels, at least.
