Default Woo Hoo! I'm OBESE!

File this one under dumb sounding goals, but after 4 1/2 months I finally passed the BMI mark that moves me from the severely obese into the obese catagory. I started out as morbidly obese. Yikes - I still cringe when I think of that.

Today also marks an even 50 pounds lost - half way to my preliminary goal.

Only another 38 pounds to go before I'm considered merely "overweight". I expect to be there by August 1st.

Somebody give me a pat on the back-fat (while it's still there)!

You deserve a pat on the back! It does probably sound weird to someone that doesn't want to lose weight that you are happy about being obese. Enjoy being happy and looking forward to you reporting that you are overweight.

BMI doesn't calculate body fat, & it doesn't make allowances for muscular development.

I know, but I started out so far from a healthy weight that BMI seemed like the best gauge to start with. That's why a 100 pound loss is only my preliminary goal. Once I'm there I'll re-evaluate based on body fat and muscle mass (or lack thereof). I am thinking 180 as a secondary goal if I have little or no muscle.

Hey, Rob
That's wonderful! I am teetering on the brink, going from morbidly obese to obese, and looking forward to the day. So glad you made it!
Woohoo!

Wow - thats really great!

According to my body fat and BMI, I am severely obese but people nearly have a heart attack when I tell them! I mean, I've certainly got weight to lose but I’m not in bad shape at all, just rounded in places!! I think those words can cause more harm then good sometimes!

To me, "morbidly obese" is just words; getting over the pervasive and persistent categorical "obese" was harder. I jumped from a BMI of 37 to a BMI of 42, with no change in measured weight, only a change in measured height. My appearance didn't change with the change in label. So it must be just words, or, as LowCarbRob, our topic starter made it, a milestone to celebrate. I've lost five pounds. The next five pounds I lose will not put me back over the line, but if I lose *six* pounds, it will.

So the first general milestone to celebrate, since I don't have Onderland ahead of me. As far as I know, there's no milestone for going below 100 pounds--probably not enough call for it. Know any overweight people with realistic goal weights of 94 pounds?
