Default Why is it so hard to get started?

For several weeks now, I've been telling myself 'I'll start LCing tomorrow'... or Monday.. or next week... or as soon as I finish off the bread/ice cream/biscuits...whatever.
Weeks later, I still haven't started, even though I am excited about it and know that it has worked for me in the past.

Why is it so hard to get started? What is this procrastination all about?
(I'm wondering if it's a psychological reaction to carb addiction or something like that? Like an alcoholic saying 'I will stop drinking tomorrow'.)

I've been stopping smoking tomorrow for a year. Tried the patch, gave me a skin reaction, tried the lozenge, overwhelming tooth pain and no relief from cravings. Can't take the medications because of my present medications. I obviously can't offer help about breaking the cycle, just keep trying, as I am. I'm about to start journaling to try to help. Once at night, when my committment to quitting is strongest, to record my motivations, and once in the morning BEFORE smoking, when my committment is weakest, to record the reasons I'm smoking so I can try to brain my way out of this mess. Smoking is so bad.

I've started tomorrow, so many times! I usually get almost through my second day when the cravings hit and I fall face first in ice cream and monster cookies. The car knows the rought to the nearest gas station and its an every other day cycle. Poor thing, I've got it confused now, I'm stayed on plan now for (drum roll please ) today is the 7th day and the car has drive right on by.

I have found avoiding triggers and staying really busy helps me, plus, the end of day 2 and the end of the first week is the hardest. Yesterday, behing my 6th day was awful, I ate more than I wanted too, but I keeped it low carb and I made it through. Feel pretty confident this morning! My first week is down!

Becky is right, an addiction is an addiction, your body and mind keep you feeding the addiction. Gotta find ways to out smart the addiction to possibly get past it.

It's completely ridiculous, because I do well on LC... i love the food, and I love the way it makes me feel (more energy, etc). I just cant. seem. to. get. started. There always seems to be 'something' stopping me and saying 'manana'. Meanwhile I get fatter, and feel worse and worse.

Really truly and genuinely am going to try to get started on LC again tomorrow. Just ate a peanut butter sandwich and finished off the ice cream in the freezer to try to rid the house of carbs!

Just re-read Professor Clark's book in the bath, and I have just sent myself a motivational email to my work email address to remind myself tomorrow that food and drink are the only 2 things in my life that I have total control over, and that I need to take control NOW.

Hows it going? I have rid myself of the carbs in the house, and am determined to stay away from the gas station.

Oh btw, I *did* eventually get started, and am on Day 3... have lost 2 pounds so far, and am currently happily getting beasted into my lunch of Polish kabanos sausages, an avocado and some mini Babybel cheeses.

Breakfast was some broken up walnuts in a bowl with melted butter and Splenda (i saw that in the Breakfast Ideas section of this forum and it was AMAZING!)

Got some fresh sardines to be grilled and eaten with salad tonight...

Not missing bread or potatoes or rice or pasta, etc at all at the moment. But it's only Day 3...

Day 5, and I'm still doing well... haven't fallen off the wagon, or cheated at all. Sitting here at work scoffing an avocado sprinkled with garlic salt, some pork crunch and a bit of cheese. I had a couple of frankfurters left in the fridge at work from a couple of days ago, but when I went to get them, they were gone! Someone nicked my lunch! I think I'll be really hungry later without those.

The weekend will be hard, as that's when I will be out with my real ale friends. Not quite sure how I am going to handle this yet.

Water and diet soda. They can pick on you all they want, you have options. You can ignore there comments and pushiness or inform them that this is what you want to do. If they let it go, great, if they keep after you to eat/drink and wont let up, be the adult and walk away. Its tough since its friends but if this is something you really want to do, don't waist your great "restart", go for it, you'll feel better for it afterwards.

My restart is going well, I'm at 6 days today and have lost 8lbs, feeling good and hey, I have a waist line!

LOL... at 49 years of age, it's definitely not peer pressure that's troubling me! It is the fact that I live and breathe and LOVE beer! I just hope I have the willpower to avoid it, and keep on the voddy & Diet Coke... even when the pump clip for my favourite guest ale is staring me in the face...BECKONING ME!
