Didn't you love it that he chose his wife's birthday for his feat?

So cute.

And, yeah, I do better if I let my mind focus on something else. Quiet intensity in my muscles, the ebb and flow of my breath.

AND, BTW: GO BARB on the three minuter!

I don't mind at all if you want to record progress here, Barb. It's motivating to see the progress of others! 3 minutes is amazing.

Today I did (with supervision by my 2 cats):

70 second front plank on forearms and toes
40 second side plank on forearm and toes
10 modified push ups
t-tap organs in place and half frogs
30 second downward facing dog
30 second child's pose

Then I ran out of time..... otherwise I was planning to do a little more.

When I am doing a front plank or push ups, my girls like to bat my necklace. It creates its own fun challenge to hold myself up and not squash them

Happy Friday everyone!

Me? A feat of my own! On my own two...oh, never mind.

I'd be listening to some tunes or a book audio book personally. Wonder if you can fall asleep in that position?

Planks today:
Front/Forearm/feet: 3 minutes!
Side/forearm/feet: 30 sec x 2... rest... 30 sec x 2 (these things are hard!)
WOW! Huge Congrats on the 3 min PLANK!

Next week, Imma gonna do something different. Instead of one long front plank, I'm going to do a series of shorter duration, as some of you are already doing. I'm betting this builds strength and endurance equally well, with perhaps even faster gains. It might help mitigate the "dread factor" too.
Sounds like an awesome plan, Barb!

I don't have to tell any of you that this plank challenge is MENTAL as well as physical. You know the saying: "Whether you say you can or you can't, you're right." Most of us remember the children's story about the Little Engine That Could. That lesson sticks, right? "I think I can...I think I can...I think I can....!"

Go for it.
I agree about the MENTAL factor of this playing an equally big part!

For that reason, I do all my exercising in the wee hours of the am! B/c if I don't, I know I can easily talk myself out of doing 'em later in the day, especially the weight training and the MOTs (what I call my plank time = minutes of torture! )

One of the wonderful things about this, and the 90 better habits thread, is that I'll feel like I'm letting down the side if I don't do what I said I'd do, and record the results, daily.

Thanks for being here, all of you!

Yep, I can't agree more; accountability helps us stay in the game!

Here's my workout for today:
70 second front plank on forearms and toes
40 second side plank on forearm and toes
10 modified push ups
t-tap organs in place and half frogs
30 second downward facing dog
30 second child's pose

The last 5seconds of the side plank were shaky but I got it done.

Now I am off for my morning walk. Have a great Saturday.

Go Plankers!

A great article that explains why the "dread factor" is actually a terrific thing for living your best life. Who knew?? It's all about pushing ourselves even a little bit beyond our comfort zone. A snippet:

Quote:
What’s remarkable and encouraging about these studies is that the subjects weren’t exercising at heroic intensities or volumes. They were simply doing something that was physically challenging for them – going from no exercise to some exercise; one need not be an elite athlete or fitness nerd to reap the bulletproofing benefits of exercise.

Those extra seconds of planking really matter!

Can I join the challenge? I can hold a plank for 30 seconds. I wish I could do just one push up, but it will be a while before that happens.

Come on in, May.

I started at 15 seconds, before this challenge. Any skill has to start somewhere, right?

Yes, MickiSue, you are correct. I'm in! I will start with my 30 seconds and see where I can go.

YAY. It will shock you, how quickly you improve. The one thing that has really helped me is to do one set, as long as I can hold it, rest in Child Pose for 15-20 seconds, then do another set, again, as long as I can hold it.

Thanks for sharing the article, Barb!

I really liked that part of the article you quoted above plus this one:

Hello & Welcome, May! The more the merrier!

We're only competing against ourselves! And like MS said in an earlier post:

"Self to self for progress and self to others for inspiration!"
