Default Adding a custom food...question

I'm not all that experienced with My PLAN, and am hoping to get into using it regularly again, since it'll really help rein in my WOE.

Anyway, I was just trying to add in a piece of Babybel cheese, and I typed in the nutrition data from the package, but it's still showing as 0 carbs, (which I typed in).

What is the "forumula" for calculating the true carb count of a food?

Here's the breakdown on the package:

Per 21 gram piece:

Calories: 70
Total Fat: 6 grams
Protein: 5 grams
Total Carb: 0 grams

Now I know there must be some carbs in this thing - it's cheese!

I'm not used to the labeling requirements in the USA - whereby if it's less than 1 gram, they can list 0.

How do I calculate the true carb count of this item?

Thanks very much for your help

OR

The general formula is:

Calories = Carbs x 4 + Protein x 4 + Fat x 9 + Alcohol x 6.93

HTH

Thanks!

According to the nifty "hidden carbs calculator" link - the cheese is actually 1.14 grams carb per piece, and not zero as listed on the packaging.

Glad I can record things more accurately now - thanks for your help

Nope, it comes in as -1.14.

Negative results may be the result of rounding. If 9.49 grams of fat was rounded to 9 grams, this will produce a negative 1 gram of carb

0x20x54= 74 calories.. 4 unaccounted calories, which you could count as 1 carb per round. HTH

Gah...you're right, I re-did the calculation on the hidden carbs calc thingy, and it did come up negative.

Should I just assume 1 gram of carb per peice of this?

I *know* cheese has carbs, and it must be that the manufacturer is messing around with the labeling.

In fact, the only way I could get the calculator to accept 1.14 grams (positive) was to up the calorie intake to 79 - the calculator gave me a message saying the cals must be 79 and not 70.

My head hurts..

I personally don't worry too much about cheese carbs, unless I'm eating large quantities. I count my cheese rounds as zero, but I usually only eat one MAYBE 2 at a time. You could count them as one to be on the safe side, depends on what works for you.

Makes sense to me.
