Kicking it up another notch to resistance level 4.
30 min elliptical at resistance 4. 12.5 degrees incline.
4.1 miles. 168 avg heart rate.

Was in the target heart zone for only about 8 minutes. Maybe the heart zone is wrong? For at least 17 minutes I was above 170.

10 minutes calisthenics and dumbbell slinging in the control room.
Not much, because I don't want to sweat it up too much right now.

Later at home...
Elliptical 30 minutes 12.5 degree incline. Heart rate 155.
Started out at resistance 5, but that didn't work. Lungs began to burn and I could feel lactic acid burn in my quads. No way I was gonna last 30 min like that. So after 5 min and 1/2 mile, I cut resistance to 3. The last half mile (5 min), I set resistance to 6.

I bet you didn't know that Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag is a great cardio tune. Not as good as Alice in Chains' Fear the Voices, but still... Not bad at all for a good cadence.

Morning workout - hopefully I'll manage to get something in this afternoon as well.

Something I haven't managed to do in a while, the Empire State Building worth of stairs.

50 trips up and down the two flights.
27:42 - not a great time, but not bad either.
Avg heart rate 162 BPM

Started feeling icky at about 35 trips, and definitely was queasy for the last 10 sets. I had considered going a full 30 minutes, but I wasn't going to continue a second longer than it took to get in the 50 trips. Bleh. Feels great now though.

Weight is stalled at 200lbs (91Kg), which is kinda discouraging. On the other hand, my quads are getting really solid and I'm about to drop another pant size. So... losing fat, gaining muscle and staying the same weight. Not what I was after, but this will have to do.

I started to ride the Airdyne for a bit - about 3 minutes, but I'm finding it unpleasant to use. I get a painful ping in one knee, my junk goes numb due to the saddle design, and I keep sliding toward the front of the seat. It's not my rig, so I'm not going to make any adjustments or changes to it. I'll just forego it, or maybe use it very lightly.

Brisk afternoon walk around the power plant racetrack. That's the paved road around the plant. Went 20 minutes even - a bit over four laps.

Strava app said that it was 1.2 miles at 3.6 miles per hour.

Kinda wore out from yesterday, but did a brief elliptical session.
15 min, resistance 3
2 miles, avg heart rate 147 (maybe)

The chest strap on the heart monitor stopped sending signals because at some point the displayed heart rate went to zero.

I'm not dead...yet.

Polar says the batteries in the chest transmitter cannot be replaced by the user and have to be sent to the factory for replacement. I took it out to the shop and performed surgery on it with an X-acto knife. The battery is new now.

The results aren't that pretty, but it sealed up again with silicone, so all is good!

Been a little off since late Monday.

We celebrated a relative's B-day on Monday, which was my only day off. We did take-out from our favorite Italian restaurant, one at which we used to dine almost monthly, before Covid. We haven't eaten there in a looooong time.

I ordered my usual favorite dish - Chicken Marsala. It didn't taste as good as I remembered. Maybe it was because we did take-out. Being half an hour off the grill maybe had something to do with it - or maybe it's just me. Anyway, shortly after eating, my gut was *not* happy at all - I was dead certain I was going to have a serious bout of diarrhea - but fortunately it never came to that. Apparently that food no longer agrees with me.

Tuesday I went on night shift after not getting much sleep during the day, and then Wednesday a bunch of telemarketers called the house, waking me up several times throughout the day. Some days are just wrecked before you ever get out of bed.

One of the elderly members of our congregation passed away last week from complications due to Covid, so I'm not in a good place mentally either. Look to tomorrow, I guess...

tldr; No exercise recently - I'm wiped out, struggling with lack of sleep, and feel down at the moment.

I'll rejoin the battle vs the waistline shortly.

Got a good-enough sleep today - 6 hours. Great, my body has finally transitioned over to night shift routine, now that I'm on my last night shift. LOL.

Stairs. 36 trips up and down the two flights
18:11 and 164 BPM.

This would have been a really fast (maybe record fast) session if I could have kept up the pace. But I started feeling icky and decided that it wasn't worth it to finish.

They tell you to "listen to your body". Listen selectively. My body tells me it wants ice cream and peanut butter cookies, in addition to telling me when it's not feeling so good.

Edit:
Stuck in the control room most of the night, so I decided to sling dumbbells around a bit. Top of each hour after taking readings, did some
Arnold Presses 20lbsx10reps (5-6 different times during the night)
Hammer Curls - same
DB curls - same
Incline pushups 10 (5-6 times)
35lb dumbbell rows 5 (5-6 times)

I can already tell this is going to hurt tomorrow. It hurts now.

Final edit: New food discovery...
2 Good Greek Yogurt. 2 grams sugar (as lactose, not freaking fructose), 12g protein, and only 80 cal. Drop in a packet of Splenda and you are eating mana from heaven, but without the insulin spike.

Got in a solid workout on the elliptical.
30 minutes, 12.5 degree incline, resistance set at 5 the entire time. Distance 3.9 miles.
Heart rate was up there. 168 avg.
I forgot to put on my head sweat band, so at the end I was like the dude in the Airplane! Movie. Dripped sweat all over the carpet, but I was on a roll, no stopping for minor stuff.
Very happy with that workout!
Diet working OK, intermittent fast, made it till dinner - a big kale salad with tuna and hard boiled eggs thrown in, followed by a mini-roll of Ritz crackers.

Hoping for a minor weight drop tomorrow since I've been on track.

Elliptical 30 minutes. 12.5 degrees incline.
Resistance 3. Heart rate 167. Distance 4.1 miles

I tried one of the pre-programmed training courses. It started off at resistance 10 LOL. It was all I could do to move the pedals. Holy cow. I quit after a minute.

One of the YouTube channels I've been watching suggested six possible cycling challenges for 2021 - one of which was to ride as hard as you can for an hour and see how far you get.

Well - I'm at work, so that's not likely to happen. But I did go up and down the stairs for an entire hour.

101 trips up and down my two flights in 60 minutes. Heart rate 157. Two Empire State Buildings. Probably won't be doing that again very soon.
