IMO, the idea they'd reject you as a donor based solely on BMI is insane...not only are you ready, willing and able to donate bone marrow (which has its risks) but there is someone you match, who now has to wait longer until a suitable BMI person is identified?

Ya know, I could understand them rejecting you if you had obvious health problems or were seriously obese since surgery for you would then be riskier and its elective.....but you look quite healthy to me, so they should let you donate if there is nothing wrong with you other than your BMI!

Hi Carl!

We still applaud you for making the offer to donate. I think you look very healthy...not "obese". These BMI standards are silly.

Well, I guess it doesn't have to be made clear that many of these ladies will be looking forward to you photo gallery Seriously, kudos for trying to donate. Maybe you can drop a bit doing low-carb and still save this person's life? It's just so silly...

Haha! My hubby is actually on the forums, so no looking allowed! He was very disgusted with the health authorities as well, I must say!

I can understand all the athletes and bodybuilders being in the "Obese" category (although I obviously think it's ridicilous), but George Clooney & Tom Cruise????

They are neither "fat" nor particularily muscular, why are they in the "Obese" group???

Anyone? Anyone???

I am disgusted by the way you were treated. You are trying to save a persons life! If there is anything I can do (writing letters or anything else) please let me know. This BMI thing has gotten way out of hand and they need to start looking at us as people, not statistics.

Two comments:

1. Welcome Carl. I greatly respect you for your offered donation.

2. Why do women seem to be the only ones posting on this thread.

Bonus comment: Should I be insulted that men as being portrayed as sex objects?

Well, it's the women posting on the thread because if these pics are making the men swoon, they are keeping it to themselves.

OK, so if I ever put out a personal ad, maybe it should say, "Ssemi-WF seeks clinically obese man. Must have one of the following: (a) guitar skills, (b) cowboy hat, (c) football experience . . . "
