I'm back from a 2 week hiatus of not exercising. I wanted to give my mouth a chance to heal from oral surgery that I had. It's still healing, but I NEED to exercise!

Last Night's Workout:

Weight Training with Powerblock Dumbbells...
Chest & Shoulders (and a bit of Abs)

3 sets of about 10 reps for:
chest-bench press, 40 lb dumbbells
shoulders-shoulder shrugs, 40 lb dumbbells
shoulders-shoulder press, 27.5 lb dumbells
chest-flyes, 30 lb dumbbells
shoulders-upright rows, 30 lb dumbells
abs-side bends, 37.5 lb dumbells

I've increased the weight on some of these exercises. It felt good. I tried doing side bends with 40 lb dumbells, but that was pushing it, so I backed off with the weight.

No Abs today. My lower back is feeling a little weird, so I'm taking a break from crunches.

Ooops - clicked the wrong gym log button.

That's what I get for typing while eating breakfast with a cat on my lap.

You're coming along, bud - how's it feeling?

I'll be switching my weekly routine around soon. I'll be doing 3 days of weight training per week. I'll be doing 2 days of split training. Chest & Back on one day, Shoulders & Arms & Abs on the another day, and a Full Body workout on the final day. My legs are already very muscular, so I'll continue not to do specific work on them.

On two other days of the week, I plan to do Russian Kettlebell training. I'll gear this training more towards functional strength and endurance versus building muscle. This training will benefit all of my muscles. I should also reap some good cardio benefits from this as well. The kettlebells are due to be delivered tomorrow.

Luv luv luvin' your sig, baby!

Got some food for thought for ya - now that my cat's not on my lap!

Even with your strong leggies, you might consider doing some squats on at least one of these days - I understand deep heavy squats can help release extra testosterone into your system, which will help the OTHER muscles to grow (not sure how - but I'm sure there's a link on here somewhere...). Plus the quads are such big muscles, they burn off a LOT of energy while they're working and while they're repairing themselves - really helps boost your metabolic rate.

Great for core, too.

I love my ATFs...

My Russian Kettlebells arrived! I ordered two sizes: 12kg (26 lbs) and 16kg (36 lbs). They have a very interesting feel. With the way the handle hangs off of them, they "feel" heavier than a dumbbell of equiv. weight. I also ordered the Russian Kettlebell Challenge DVD, so that I could see the proper form of the various exercises, and not smash myself to pieces! lol

I'm starting out slowly, and did just two exercises tonight.

Using 12kg Kettlebell:

4 sets of 2 arm swings to chest level, 10 reps per set
(wow, this works a lot of muscles, especially in the legs)

4 sets of between the legs passes, 10 reps per set per side
(works the midsection)

I like these things! I'll slowly add more exercises, once I have a good feel for handling them. If you're interested, you can check them out here:

I was wondering about those - thanks for the link.

So, you swing them? This doesn't hurt your joints? (she said, cringing...)

I realize there must be some sort of technique to them. I've never seen these before.

Here are the kettlebell exercises that I did (but I did the swings with two arms; I'll work up to one arm swings):
