Walnut I hear you on the upping your carbs and nausea and low energy. Without being low carb I suffer from severe low energy when I'm not pregnant. I'm in college full time and have 2 other kids at home and I work part time. LOL I also have a dog and a cat and a husband and and ex(the father of my 3 other kids the 19 year old is no longer at home) that gives me all kinds of problems. I just CANNOT afford to feel like crap.

Sounds like you have a full platter, Kaylakala.

LOL that is just the tip of the iceburg!! Thanks for the support. I feel crazy right now. I just take one class one assignment one issue at a time.
You all are the only ones I've told. Only me and my hubby know for now. Great to be able to chat with you guys!

Oh and on subject. If I"m off plan for more than 2 days. my bp shoots up to 140/100. HHMMM ketosis or high bp and meds?!?!?
To me this is a no brainer.
do we have to drink that glucose and take that diabetes test? Or is that just something they do if they see something that's off?
I ended up having to take the several hour glucose test because I drank a huge slurpee before my apt and didn't know about the bloods test that morning. It make my stomach roll just thinking of it!!

you dont "have" to do any of the medical interventions, you always have the right to refuse.

i dont plan on doing the glucose tolerance test, i know exactly what will happen. rebound hypoglycemia. they can test my hga1c or fructosamine if they really want a picture of what's going on with my blood sugars. i'm already on the diet that gets recommended for gestational diabetes anyways....

I will also refuse the glucose tolerance testing. Forcing me to drink 50-100g of pure sugar all at once will in NO WAY give them an accurate picture of how my body behaves on a regular daily basis because I don't consume sugar in such amounts. I've also been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, so I just had my doc give me a prescription for some new test strips, and I just monitor my glucose levels myself at home. So far, I've only been testing my morning fasting levels, but they've been just fine (highest readings are in the low 90s). I'll test some post-prandials when I hae some fruit or something with more carbs than usual.

Blah I've sooo got to get over the guilt of not having recommended tests done. I really don't want the triple screen done either. Unless there is something they can do inutero to help my baby. Because I'm keeping him/her no matter what.
Drinking that gunk just can't be good for the baby.

Oh, girl, don't feel guilty about doing what YOU think is best for you and your baby. I refused all the tests. I got the whole spill about Down's at my age and all. Don't care. It's MY baby no matter what. As far as the "sugar" test......I agree with you. Drinking a glass of sugar can't be good for the baby or you.

Don't feel guilty - it's your body and your baby and you choice whether you want to have any tests done or not! I am having all tets done that don't carry a risk (so no CVS or amnio unless something else is a major red flag) not because I would necessarily terminate, but rather because I want to be as prepared as possible for any potential issues - line up special doctors, special daycare, and learn about treatments or care, things like that.

I already know there is a very real risk that I may have caused a physical deformity by having been taking high doses (25,000 IUs daily) of vitamin A supplements (palmitate form) for about the first 7-8 weeks since I didn't know I was pregnant yet. The silver lining is that, if there is a deformity caused by vit A, it's a superficial physical one that is almost always correctable via surgery. I've obviously since stopped those supplements, but studies have shown that babies born to mothers supplementing at this level have about a 20% chance of having a physical deformity (usually cleft lip or cleft palate), and that deformity can develop as early as 6 weeks. I'm not "freaking out" about it because what's done is done, and I can't change it now, but I will mention it at every single ultrasound and appointment I have so they can monitor the physical development of my baby as closely as possible. If we do find a deformity prior to birth, I want to be able to research hospitals and surgeons in my area to make sure I line up the best possible care for my baby.

Awwww, I hope and pray that your baby is ok. I don't blame you for wanting to know as much as possible to be prepared. I forget how far along you are.....have they done an u/s yet?? And, the CVS, Quad test, etc., did those come back ok??

I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow (come on, second trimester!). I had an early ultrasound for dating since my cycles were irregular (turned out I was 9 weeks when I though, based on LMP, that I was about 10.5), and I had my NT ultrasound last week (results should be in this week sometime). I won't do a CVS or amnio since those carry a risk of miscarriage; unless major risk factors pop up in screenings, I don't want to do the "risky" tests. For these types of physical deformities, they probably won't be able to tell much until around the 20 week anatomy u/s. I see my new OB this week, so I'll mention this to her and see if maybe we'll end up having another u/s planned after the 20 weeks as well, just to keep an eye on things. If not, I may even opt to pay out of pocket for a 3D later on.

FABULOUSLY! She is a keeper! She's on board with me low-carbing, will do more ultrasounds after the 20-week mark to monitor for potential physical deformities (I was still supplementing very high in vit A palmitate early on since I didn't know I was pregnant), and is on board with me opting out of the glucose tolerance test in favor of just monitoring my own levels at home. Plus, she did an impromptu in-office ultrasound at my very first appointment because she couldn't find the heartbeat on the doppler (though she didn't try for very long!).

Can you please tell me about the CVS and amino tests? I haven't heard of these. I already knew about the glucose tolerance test, which I'll be refusing as well. I already monitor my blood sugar for kicks once a week. But now I guess I need to research the other tests they do. I always just thought it was so simple, but I guess it can't be in today's times.

As far as LCing and being in ketosis, I'm pretty sure I'm constantly in it because the baby hates carbs Seriously...I eat over 50 a day and I start to feel like MS is coming down the pipe. It is too funny. My baby loves my WOE.
