Tammie see how you feel after losing the weight. Low carbing alone may make your symptoms go away. my opinion is why treat with meds when you can fix it naturally?

Tammie there are a couple of things you can try:
kelp - speeds up the metabolism and helps the thyroid which is often sluggish in people with PCOS
Chromium GTF - does a lot of what Met does but without the side effects
Progesterone Cream - you can buy this on line although it would be better to get your Doc to check your levels - a lot of people with PCOS are low in progesterone which contributes to falling hair; extra hair and weight gain

Ladies,

My doctor has checked my levels and swears I don't have PCOS. The only reason I am researching this is because I have the symptoms. Extra hair, trouble conceiving, can't loose weight.... Ever heard of ok numbers with this condition?

I was presenting to my Doctor with PCOS symptoms for 4 years - he kept testing me for all sorts of things; early menopause; rheumatoid arthritis etc. etc. then I read an article in a magazine about PCOS.

I asked for the tests but they said my hormone tests didn't indicate PCOS at all - I think because they had exhausted all other options they sent me for an ultrasound and that's when the discovered a lot of cysts. I have all the symptoms of PCOS and can't explain why they didn't think so according to my hormone levels

tommiec68 - I also have had a lot of leg pain since I started taking Metformin (500mg 3 X/a day) and I read somewhere that it depletes your vitamin B6 or B12. (I can't remember which one). So I started taking a mineral suppliment that is for diabetics. It has helped a lot, but sometimes I do forget to take them, so sometimes I still have the pain. Have you had your insulin checked? My was 46 in July. I don't know what it is now.

I have lost 20 pounds in 27 weeks. The first 3 weeks I started low carbing I didn't loose anything. Then I started on Metformin and lost 4 pounds in 1 week. Since then it has been about 2 pounds a month. Really S L O W ! But something is better than nothing.

I have lost 48 pounds since 09/27/04. I have been low carbing and my Dr put me on Metformin around that time. I started an exercise program the beginning of this year. My body and symptoms are coming around great. My cholesterol level has dropped amazingly and so has my blood glucose. I have no doubt that the combination of all 3 is doing me wonders.
