when I hit goal, I'll be using this - mean or not, this may actually trigger something in somebody to do something.

My in laws are like that. I guess junk food is healthy because that's mainly what they eat.

I tell folks that I eat 5-7 servings of vegetables per day. That usually causes them to grab their chests and do a Fred Sanford.

No low-cal dieter I have ever known willingly ate vegetables.

This was perfect. Naysayers are not appologetic to us. They don't need us to be appologetic to them.

I just say that I have a reaction to carbs. When they ask what, I tell them they make me swell up all over. LOL

You've got to read the Taubes piece that MizKitty just posted in the research/media forum. Maybe we should send all these to him.

We invited a few friends to a local bar for drinks on the weekend for the BF's birthday. a friend ordered some potato wedges and offered me some. This is pretty much how the conversation went:

Her: Help yourself
Me: No thanks
Her: C'mon
Me: No, honestly, I'm fine, but thanks anyway
Her: what - is there something wrong with them?
Me: I'm just watching what I'm eating, that's all
Her: So ONE WEDGE will kill you will it?
Me: No, but I'm on a roll and I don't want to interrupt all my good work
Her Boyfriend: Actually, I've noticed you've lost weight - what diet are you on?
Me: Atkins (I know I said the dreaded A word, but what can I say, I like the 'shock value'.)
Her: You'll never lose weight that way
Me: But you just said I have
Her: Its so unhealthy. He died.
Me: Yes, we all die at some point. Gotta watch that slippery ice.
Her boyfriend: it works so badly they went bankrupt
Me: Yeah, but they started up again soon after. Anyway, I'm following the principles, not the company, and that just means no refined sugar or wheat, and keeping the carbs low, how can that be bad for me?
Her: I couldn't live without carbs
Me: I'd find it hard too - and I eat carbs, the difference is just that my carbs are veggies and nuts and some cheese. Yours are lollies and bread and potato wedges.
Her: its not sustainable even if you do lose a little bit of weight
Me: you mean eating veggies, feeling healthy and looking better, reducing cholesterol and blood pressure, are all things that aren't desirable long term? Hmmm, I hadn't thought of it that way. But now that you bring it up....hmmm... yep, I still think you're wrong. Oh, and I seem to remember you saying I look better, have lost weight and have clearer skin. Yeah you must be right - looking after yourself the way I am clearly has no benefits , lots of deprivation and will lead to an early death. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to order a cheese platter. Enjoy your wedges!!

Ok so it was bitchy of me, and it may have been dripping with sarcasm, but I think if you can't be a supportive friend (especially when you can see the positove benefits) then just shut up!!
