Hi everyone. I'm ba-ack - New Year's resolutions and all that... Let's hope this one sticks.

Gon, I'm way too old fashioned for an app. I simply wear a pedometer, then count up the totals with a calculator. I do use the one on the PC, mind. I'm sure some of the young 'uns here might have an app of some sort, although I don't think any of them are all that young. Of course, I could be misjudging them. I'm pretty sure Ken is way younger than me.

Hi gonwtwindo, I participated in this thread last year during the winter and it was great. I can vouch for the inexpensive omron pedometers. Look that up on amazon. I also just jotted down my daily totals here like Ambulo, the master walker of the UK

happy new year everyone and good walking to you, relax on the slippery spots, well except for you Roz

I'm 64. Does that count as a young'un'?

I have an iPhone. I looked at the health app after I posted this and found out it has been counting my steps since I got the phone a year ago. Who knew.

I don't see running totals, or by month or anything, just by the day... but I didn't look too hard

ok I'm a dummy. I forgot this was a 10K+ a day group. Don't think I'm gonna get there for a while!

I'm almost 67 Gon, so yeah, to me you're still a kid.

As for the 10K steps, that's just a goal for me at present. For me this is (and has been) a place simply to record however many steps I manage in a day.

So, welcome to the group!

Hiya, Thud. Any slippery spots here are from perspiration! We are currently having ourselves a nice little heatwave, and so of course the air con had to go on the blink, didn't it! All fixed now, thank goodness. Only 33º (92ºF) today with MUCH humidity, but quite okay with the AC. So my walking is all being done indoors, as it mostly is anyway, because I am so unsteady on my feet.

Hi gonwtwindo
I don't use an app. I have an Omron pedometer clipped to my waistband and I read the number every night, write it in my diary and reset it. I know it is accurate because I have compared it with a mental count over thousands of paces. Whereas both my sports watch and my Garmin watch are way out. I wouldn't trust a fitbit either.

As for steps, we set our own challenge, or just write down what we've done. I'm not aiming for 10,000 steps every day this year, I want to do some really long walks this summer and have some easy days between

I use a Fitbit. Seems accurate enough to me. I compared it to an app called "Map My Walk" and it was close, a little under perhaps, but nothing significant. I just record my daily steps. I do try to get at least 10,000 steps in every day but this is an anything goes kinda place. We each determine for ourselves our goals, no pressure.

Nice to see you back Roz.

Jean
