There is no "fight" going on. I got annoyed b/c my point appeared to get totally lost in a matter of just a few moments, that's all. And I was tired, so I signed off.

The subject of "frankenfoods" is a sensitive one around here and as soon as someone mentions it, it rapidly escalates, and normally I don't get involved b/c I only eat a few franken-condiments and I don't care whether people eat them or not. Whatever works, ya know?

Just a thought; Why is it when a heated discussion goes on "usually" someone joins for a few posts; then is never heard from again?
Kind of Odd.
I think we have someone with "sock puppets" here.

Keep in mind that that version is widely believed to be completely rewritten by someone "other" than Dr A, under his name. He had sold the rights to use his name and stuff like that by then. I had never heard of "him" actually approving of all the packaged LC foods until yesterday!

Its all about making money. Its a business; now with Dr.A gone its about how to make a buck. If we were told to just "do the book", the diet industry would go under because we would all be thin. But when you add in the Lc products you have a lot of rebounding and what not. I think its a big scam to make money. And keep us "fat" and trying to lose.
IMHO

I can believe it, particularly since in some sections it went on about "good healthy whole foods" ... and then said "have a delicious Atkins shake or two slices of terrific Atkins bread!"

I'm not a sock puppet, I just have a limited attention span :-)
But I kid...I'm a kidder...

No really, I didn't find this thread all that heated. I didn't even think we were disagreeing all that much. I don't know who might have multiple user names... I thought the mods keep track of that.

I agree with Elle, sometimes we get tired, or our points don't come off just as we planned, or the response wasn't what we expected etc. --- I personally have written paragraphs, only to realize I went off the mark. So we sign off for a bit , or walk away and let the conversation go on without us. Doesn't mean we are fighting, on the other hand...

I do suspect (but have no way of knowing for sure) that one person who posts over on the Atkin's site with a similar name comes here and gets into the same arguments she does there and ticks a lot of people off (here and there). As soon as the "Atkin's Police" posts come up... I get annoyed and usually stop posting. The insistent MUSTS about rules that are not so black and white, make me nuts. But I try not to get into the same arguments over and over again.

Don't feed the trolls.

I think there is a huge reason that Veronica Atkin's (the doctors wife) has nothing to do with what started out as his company. She spends her time and energy of the Atkins foundation that is raising money to fund studies supporting the doctor's hypothesis.

I think the Doctor is spinning in his grave over whats going on over at Atkins corporate. While the doctor himself occasionally used a few of his own products (as he stated on Larry King), he did it sparingly, and used them as a tool to maintain his weight---not to lose. And anyone who read '72 and '92 can tell that 2002 isn't written by him in the same manner as the other books.

I heard many people say that Atkin's felt the diet was complete in 1992... his work after that concentrated more on the Vita-Nutrients...which the company barely waited 'til his body was cold to discontinue. Corporate Atkins always had different priorities than the doctor did, when he was alive he could keep them in check.

I agree 100%, but have never said so here! The book CLEARLY was not written by him, as far as I'm concerned.

I follow the 1992 version...with the addition of the carb ladder, which I think is very useful. No net carbs for me.

Yeah, me too.

Without getting into the whole debate about frakenfoods -- and I wouldn't have made it a few times without low carb tortillas, thank you very much -- knowledge hasn't hit a standstill because Atkins died. I find the incessant banging of the "no more than 3 servings are *ALL* artificial sweeteners" and other such drums to be way out there. When Atkins wrote that *all* artificial sweeteners contained carbs and you could easily burn up so many carbs on them that you couldn't eat veggies on induction. Who knows what he would have said in the face of no carb sweeteners. I tend to voice an opinion and leave the discussion.

I would actually *love* to be able to eat those LC tortillas! But after the first couple over a few days, they left me terribly bloated and the cravings kicked in! I *loved* those things!

Elle, I used very thinly prepared revolution rolls as a tortilla or pita. I put a bit of chili powder in them and they were yummy!

I love them as pitas too. I found that nothing much I added to them, like onion powder, didn't make any taste difference, but the chili powder did! Also really really strong cheese adds some flavour. I was getting really tired of them, but I like them again.

Elle, that happened to me with La Tortilla Factory tortillas. I have to eat the ones that are a bit higher in carbs -- Mission brand. I know some people are bothered by them, too.

Pennick I might give that a try now that I'm doing induction again. I would really like to have something as a "base" for a quesadilla.
