Default Ditch the margarine

They're putting sterols in it.

Those of us without sitosterolemia who increase sterol intake with sterol-enriched foods increase blood levels of sterols several-fold. Is this healthy, or does it contribute to coronary plaque as it does in people with sitosterolemia?

They are marketing this based on the flawed assumption that lowering cholesterol lowers heart attack risk. To the best of my knowledge, there have been no studies showing that consuming plant sterols actually reduces heart attack risk. Cholesterol is just a surrogate marker and a poor one at that.

I recall that Dr. Davis also pointed out that the levels the AHA is recommending and the levels in these products are much greater than what you would get from normal consumption of vegetables. Consuming more that nature intended -- how can that be healthy????
