Cool Walden Farms Products?

I just stumbled upon their website. It looks like almost everything they sell is no carb. BBQ sauce, ketchup, salad dressings and even fruit spreads! Has anyone tried this stuff? Is it any good? Is it really no carb??

I have their dressing, jam and chocolate dip. I love the dressing and jam but not the dip. It tastes like liqueur. But i recommend their products.

I use their ketchup and pancake sauce. Even the non-low carbers in the family use them without complaint.

I agree the fruit spreads are yummy. I use it to top crispbread for a zero net carb snack.

I could be wrong, but I think the crispbread being a "zero net carb" food has been debunked in this forum.

The ingredient list includes rye flour which according to the USDA food nutrient database is definitely not zero carbs. One cup of dark rye flour had a net carb count of 60+ carbs.

It looks like the most rye flour that the crispbread can contain is 14.6% which would be negligible in small amounts but a few crackers could start to add on carbs for the unsuspecting.

Don't forget though to factor in the carbs from fiber

I always deduct all fiber from carbs and never have had a problem. The trick is making sure the nutritional information has not already deducted the fiber from the carbs.

Walden farms also uses very small serving amounts some times to lower thier carbs per serving. There are carbs in most of the things so they are not a free food.

Personally I've tried some and liked them, and others completely disgusted me. Just can't remember which was which.

I agree with Ladybelle. I like the seafood sauce, and chocolate syrup for things but some of those dressings are down right putrid.

i really like walden farms products, i use the pancake syrup on my scrambled eggs ..lol..and you would literally not beable to tell the difference of that from regular pancake syrup, i also have tried the bbq sauce, which is also pretty good, and the chocolate syrup for ice cream is awesome, the only one i didnt like is the spicy bbq sauce, i likes the original tho, i also have ranch dressing at home but havent tried it yet.

I provided a link in my original post for GG Scandinavian crispbread.

as you see below 3 carbs - 3 fiber = 0 net carbs
and at 16 calories each thats a good deal.

Kevin,

With your impressive numbers, you are obviously not having a problem with the crackers. I did check the link you provided in the post and that is when I realized they are probably not zero net carbs. Because their label says they are 3 grams carbs and 3 grams fiber does not make it so. Many labels lie...or misrepresent the nutritional information.

One way they do that is to subtract the fiber from the total carbs which in this case would make them 3 carbs after subtracting the fiber. The reason they are most likely not zero net carbs is that the second ingredient is rye flour which is very "carby."

yep, that's the hidden carbs for you. don't forget that those 16 calories are not coming from the air (sorry breatharians, doesn't happen!) even the first ingredient, wheat bran, is not entirely fiber

don't worry about it though, 3g carbs is minimal. just don't eat 12 crackers at a time and you're fine.

walden farms products...they are great, but i think it's a bit of an aquired taste. what i do is mix the calorie free dressings with a high-fat dressing, so i can still drown my salad without turning it into a 600 calorie appetizer. you might want to try that if you think the taste is a little hard to stomach.
