Default Bad Folgers!!

I was skimming through my carb counter last night (ok you know your putting off homework when.. )

Anyway I got to the coffee section. While most coffee's were only the 1 carb as thought, Folgers brand coffees had 3 net carbs!! Even the decafs. I think I'll be switching to Nescafe now

Yikes! That's the brand I drink.

I have only one cup a day, but still....I can't say the extra carbs make it taste superior to the other major brands, so I think I'll buy another brand next time.

Thanks for pointing that out! That could be a problem for people with big coffee habits.

I was doing around 2 12oz mugs a day at least. I switched to decaf and just one, but still that is more then I was figuring. I basicaly buy it because it's cheap and it's what I'm used to.

I'm pondering taking my carb counter with me when shopping from now on. It's a rather thick paperback though so I don't know

What carb counter are you using? I checked for Folgers product info online and they don't offer any. TIA!

"The Complete Food Counter" by Annette B. Natow, Ph.D., R.D. and Jo-Ann Heslin, M.A., R.D.

It counts calories, Protien, Carbs, Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium and fiber. (they must do rounding as not all numbers add up)

I like it because it gives brand names for things. It doesn't have all the products, like it has only one kind of Atkins bar under protien bars, but enough to give an idea.

For Folgers Coffee
Colombian Supreme 1 tbsp 16 cals 3g carbs
Custom Roast "" "" ""
Decaffeinated 1 tbsp 17 cals 1g protien 3carb
French Roast 1 tbsp 16 cals 3 carbs
Gourmet Supreme "" ""
Instant 1 tsp 8 cals 1g carbs
Instant Decaf "" "" 2g carbs
Singles 21 cals 1protien 4carbs
Singles decaf ""
Special Roast 16 3 again

I want to get the Nescafe Decaf with chicory. only 0 cals and trace carbs. Of course no where here I have found has it, just specialty Nescafe drinks :P

Starbucks Frappachino drink is listed as 39g carb per bottle. Ouch.

3 carbs per tablespoon! And I use 3 to make my morning mug of coffee!

Well, I'll still have that one, but wow! What a wake-up call! (pun intended)

LadyBelle,

Which book do you have??? I'm looking at a few on Half.com. I've found "The Complete Food Counter" by Annette Natow and "Food & Diet Counter : Complete Nutritional Facts for Every Diet" by Dr. Wynnie Chan.

French Roast 1 tbsp 16 cals 3 carbs

It is just the ground no creamer. They have a seperate list of coffee creamers (non-dairy) and those would add quite a bit more carbs. They also listed plain coffee, and a couple other brands with much lower carb counts ranging from trace to 1g.

I don't know. To be on the safe side I got some Maxwell House half caf. It's not bad tasting actually. Maxwell house wasn't listed specificaly so I'm hoping it falls under the regular coffees.

The Carb Counte rI have is Natow & Heslin. I saw a much more complete one at the store, but it was a huge book, not something I could easily take shopping with me Could be good for at home reference though.
