which is when I compete in my triathlon (I have paid the registration now $50 - so no backing out! )

I have been going to the gym frequently (4-5 times a week) for the past 3 weeks, that and a lower carb diet have helped me lose about 5kg and at least one dress size.

The problem that I think I am going to have is fitting everything in. I have always liked doing weights, so don't want to stop them but also have to fit in enough swimming, cycling and running/walking to make sure that I am fit for the tri.

So, my plan is to try and do weights twice a week. I then need to fit in 2 swims, 2 cycles and 2 runs and one rest day So, two days I will have to fit in two work outs or run off the cycle.

This week I am concentrating on running/cycling and the weights. I will be adding swimming next week.

Weights, I would like if I may Built, copy your beginners work out. It looks like a great starting point and I like the fact that it isn't all legs on one day and all arms on the other.

I would love feed back on my programme....

Thanks for your kind words in my gym log. I must admit, I have been lurking around your gym log - from the moment I saw the word: triathlon. As a runner, and as a mother of a triathloner son I love to read inspirational story from other endurance athletes.

New Zealand !!! Do you have any web page/picture/map of your coming race?
Which distance do you plan to do? Sprint, olympics?

(The Lord Of the Ring movie made me fall in love with your country .)

P.S.: If you check a couple of previous exercise froum threads, you can find posts from many runners, bikers, triathloners....
Here is a great site for first timers : http://www.beginnertriathlete.com - check the programs - great help to organize the training.

Thanks for your support.

the link to the tri I have registered for is here It is only a tri for very beginners - more of a fun one than anything serious. My goal is to be able to do the run as a run and not a walk.

Interestingly, Scorching Bay, where it is going to be held is very close to where Peter Jackson lives and where his studio is. Here is a photo.

Thanks for the link. I have checked out a number of training plans and think that I have got it about right now.

My sister and her boyfriend are into this sort of thing - nothing like some sibling rivalry to keep me motivated!

Thanks for the links. OMG!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! I have never seen similar triathlon course. Who cares if it is 3k, 5k, 30k or 50k - the joy of the race is the same.

If we had something similar I might be considering to jumping in. My weak point is the biking. I am scared to death to pedal if any moving object (cars, bikers or even walkers) are closer than 10 meters from me. So I keep reading triathletes gym logs to get the courage to jump in.

HAVE FUN!!!!

Eva

P.S.: nice wedding pic

Am trying out a new gym for the next month for free so that should be interesting.

The offer spinning classes as part of the initial membership which my current gym doesn't - which is important for when I can't get on the bike.

Had a tour of it last night and even after work it wasn't very packed - which is great for weights.

So the plan today is:

PM
Do the intro spinning class and then go for a swim (750m)

well the spin class was enough to make me tired, but was well worth it.

Will try for the swim and also weights this evening.

My weight loss has stalled (why couldn't it stall in 2 kgs time!) so I will have to get a tape measure I think!

Kiwifi,

THANKS for the recommendation . Last time when we were there we DID have Pencarrow Martinborough 2001 Pinot Noir to this meals:

NATURAL HERB SALAD
Fresh field greens, basil, dill, cilantro, mint, parsley, chervil, in a sweet vinaigrette
TURNER VENISON MEDALLIONS - appetizer
The finest quality venison in the world - perfectly aged Turner Venison medallions, seared rare, served with a spiced fig compote in a filo parcel, finished with a raspberry red wine sauce
TURNER VENISON STEAK

Minimum 14-day aged Turner Venison steak , pan-seared, oven-finished, celery root purée, caramelized cippolini onions, mushrooms, shallots, finished with a classic pinot noir demi-glace

Yesterday we had another pinot noir Martinborough Wineyard, Martinborough 2001. It was recommended by the waiter as another (he did remember that we had Pencarrow last time) great wine to our meals:

TURNER LOBSTER BISQUE
Fresh Turner Lobster stock made from fresh Turner Loster bodies, then we add chunks of fresh Turner Lobster meat
TURNER KING SALMON SALAD

Crispy-skin, fresh Turner New Zealand King Salmon, pan-roasted, served on top of fresh garden greens, rocket, yellow and red cherry tomatoes, with lemon vinaigrette

TURNER VENISON CHOP

The finest venison in the world - Minimum 14-day aged, thick double-cut Turner Venison rib chop, pan-seared, sautéed asparagus, finished with an orange cognac demi

I must admit this restaurant is our first New Zealand adventure - and everything (meal, wine, service, interior, etc.) is "perfect''. The taste of these dishes were very unique, and very different from the similar dishes from other countries. We plan to go back to check other seafood, beef dishes.

I will check our wine stores to see the New Zealand selection, and hope to get help from you to find the best ones.

Thanks very much for the wine links. I checked all the tiny details. We plan a wine shopping tour very soon - we have many huge wine store here with thousand of different bottles of imported wine. I hope to pick up some good NZ bottles - for affordable price. (According our experience those stores offer the same bottles for 1/3- 1/4 price than the restaurants.)
