Default Is Atkins good for clogged carotid arteries?

My doctor says "lower your fat intake;" but many I've talked to says that low-carb diet IS lowering both their LDL and triglycerides significantly. I'm a little concerned i'm not worsening the blockage in my arteries (70-80%). Any real life experience out there?

My blood numbers for bad cholesterol and the ratio of HDL-total, and triglycerides are all very low after 5 years of mostly LCing. I am now considered "below average risk" for any kind of heart or circulatory problem. My Dr. listens to the carotid arteries during the exam and found no problem.

The Pritikin Diet claimed that it reversed fatty deposits on the walls of arteries because it lowered cholesterol. I venture to say that the same is true of LCing which does an even better job of lowering the bad blood numbers

My total chol went from 220+ to 156. My triglycerides are down to 50 now and my LDL is down from 200+ to 103. That's from eating 60%fat (half of that from saturated fat). They'd gotten that high from eating a "healthy" low fat diabetic diet.

Default Important Thread

This is an important thread around an important question.

Quinidal and Tofi, I would encourage you to cross-post your results on the cholestor/heart portion of this site at http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=48

I would also encourage others, particularly those who have been LCing for more than 1 year, to post their cholesterol results. The cholestorol site is riddled with people who are early, early into LC who ask sometimes alarmist, panicky questions about the effect of LCing on cholesterol. It would be great to hear numbers from those who have been on a LC WOE for a more extended time.
