Hello Everyone
Was just reading. Didn't really intend to sign up. But, here I am. Hi. I started this way of life back in August 2015 and haven't looked back. I've lost 45 pounds and I'm still going for this last bit. It's slowed way down now. Maybe like a pound a month? Something like that.
As far as Atkins goes, that has been my guide to start. But now I've gotten off into the LCHF thing and that's sort of my rulebook now. I had diabetes. I say 'had' because I'm off my meds now and my blood glucose is fine.
In fact, I've had a bit of struggle with my doctor. She's been supportive of me. But she doesn't understand the diet well enough. For example, she's on me to go to a kidney specialist due to my lack of sodium. Sodium, it turns out, is naturally low on this diet due to water loss. I have a daily cup of broth and my dizziness is gone. Eat sodium. Right, got that.
I find lots of assistance on youtube. Bob Briggs has been a big help, others have not. Too much 'personality' on their videos for my taste. Another one is that guy at dietdoctor.com who sort of reminds me of Frankenstein or Schwarzenegger. Just does, can't help it. However, his advice and his interviews are helpful. Dr Stephen Phinney, another one.
There's no point to this. This is just me rambling and saying 'hello'. The one thing I do see here that is a difference in my outlook. I don't see this as a diet. This is the new way I eat, period. Essentially, this is my 10th month of induction. Thought I'd lose a bit faster, but basically I'm pleased with the results. (And the medical results. I'm going to see about her taking that diagnosis of Diabetes Type 2 OFF of my records. As far as I'm concerned, I'm cured.) And, I'm not going back.
