Question

Have you heard any replies? There are so many of these out there! There's also Aunt Pearl's Low Carb Bake Mix, All purpose bake mix, Soy Creations Bake Mix, Chef's Bake Mix. It looks like Aunt Pearl's is the cheapest ~7.99 for 24oz, but how does it taste?! ANYONE?

argo2d: I just tried Carbsense Bake Mix this morning for a home-made pancake recipe. Is it supposed to work as a one-to-one replacement for flour? I thought so, but the batter was so thick that I added more liquid to get what I thought was normal pancake batter consistency. The batter was still thick but the pancakes came out thin and not all that tasty.

Can I ask what you made with it? I'm afraid to try my home-made perogies and pastas now...

i make bread with it, but because its soy, it will absorb a lot of water and still be thick
to get mine to come out right, i had to add thickning agents (not to make it thicker!) . i use not starch from expert foods, but its pricy. you might try guar gum or xanthan?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I follow. It came out thick, so you added a thickening agent, but not to make it thicker? I do have ThickenThin's not/Starch but I'm not sure I see how adding it will help...

??

Has anyone simply tried using soy protein isolate in powder form to make pancakes?

I have two bake mixes...Carbolite Vanilla Bake Mix and Atkins Quick Cuisine for pancakes & waffles. Since I'm still on induction (from the looks of things, it may be a couple more weeks at least...) I have actually only tried the Carbolite once...and it's okay.

Then I read the ingredient list, and it said soy protein isolate, vanilla flavoring, and Splenda. That 's all. Hmmmm...if that's true...seems like I could just use the soy protein isolate powder sold at the local Fred Meyer (Kroger) store in about the same way.

Comments??

I have the Ketogenics Pancake mix and it's awful. I think all soy based products taste horrible. I bought soy flour and experimented making pancakes and pizza crust and didn't have a problem witht he consistency on either it was just the soy taste! I'm going to try Almond flour next, but it's pricey.

Tonight I made pizza using the pizza mix from Carbsense. It was quite good I thought. I also bought the pancake mix but haven't tried it yet.
