Protein Power Pals: SATURDAY!
Dawn, thanks so much. I'm going to check out your link right now. I already do both those stretches (on both sides). The trouble is, I'm very flexible and can go way further than those pictures show, and STILL not feel like I'm stretching anything. On the gluteus stretch, my legs almost touch my chest, and on the piriformus stretch, the bent knee touches the ground (with the opposite shoulder still touching the ground).
I do a whole series of other stretches, too.
For example, you know the one where you're sitting on the floor, knees bent to the sides and the soles of your feet together? My heels are within a couple inches of my . . . "between the thighs" . . . and my knees touch the floor without trying. So no stretch there. Then, I bend over one knee with a virtually straight back and I'm fully chest to leg (can't go further than that!) over each knee and even to the front.
Strangely, there's no pain this morning, but yesterday was pretty bad. I have had piriformus pain before on my right side (but no radiating pain down the leg), so I've been worked on for this before.
When I said I'm convinced the chiro will break me, here's what happened. She put me in the piriformus stretch that you showed (one leg bent over the other leg), put one hand on my opposite shoulder to keep it down, the other hand on my bent knee, and then suddenly put all her weight and momentum on my bent knee to force it down more and twist and crack my back. I couldn't relax. It truly felt like she was going to rip something. She did other manipulations that felt ok, but this one definitely felt like something was wrong. I'm a strong believer in my gut emotions, and this felt wrong.
So, off to read your link. Back in a bit!
OH! Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is planning a nice low-carb day! Scale was bouncing between 152 and 153 yesterday morning before settling on 153. Also, remember I said I bought a couple suits recently because the ones I had didn't fit anymore? I took the skirts to the tailor yesterday to have them shortened, and so I decided to take the jacket to my favorite suit along (which is now way too big). They ended up taking the jacket in 4 inches! It looks sooooo much better now. The skirts (because they're lined) came to $24 each, and the jacket was only $24. I had assumed that the jacket would be a lot more.
Moral of story: If you have something you just love, but has gotten too big for you, have it altered. It doesn't cost that much. And you'll look so much better. The other seamstress there saw me in the jacket before my seamstress started pinning, and when she saw me after she smiled and said it made a world of difference. Wearing something that actually fits your body always looks better than wearing a tent. No matter what your size or shape.
Does anyone else watch "What Not to Wear"? It's my favorite show; I watch both the American version on HGTV (Friday nights and Saturdays at noon), and the British version on BBC America. They take women and men of all sizes and tell them what they should be wearing for their particular shapes. The before and after is truly amazing!
OK, back in a bit.
