Default Question for Women re Cycle

Hi All,

I've read and searched to no avail, but am sure this has been discussed.

I'm totally committed to LC WOE, and have had several surprise health improvements. However, I've also had one predictable health hassle - my cycle has been completely screwed up since I started this WOE.

I've had troubles all my life with my cycle getting out of whack, and I know losing fat can up estrogen levels, creating troubles. If that's my problem, I'll gut it out - I have no interest in taking hormones or in surgical fixes.

The progression is that I was about a week early when I first started Induction. Other than being a bit early, everything was normal. I didn't have another "monthly" for about 65 days, which is very unusual for me (it's never late, only early when off kilter). When it came, it stuck around for a good 3 weeks. I got a day or two off before it started again, lasting more than a week so far.

Have any of you experienced something like this adjusting to low carb? It's not life and death stuff, but predictability would be nice!

Thanks in advance.

It's very, very common when starting LC, Sheila. Look for threads mentioning "TOM" (time of the month )
As you suspected, it's that pesky oestrogen. So it means it's a good thing, because you are losing fat. Trouble is, losing fat means you are leaking oestrogen and your hormones are all out of whack. It will settle soon. I wish I could tell you how soon, but ah, I had already had a hysterectomy when I start low carbing so didn't have that particular problem.

But if I had a dollar for every thread I've seen saying what you've just said...

Ive been in ketosis for 2 weeks now and have been spotting every day!

The last time I was on my keto diet, I didn't spot the whole time but I was out of whack for a couple months!

Your normal

Thank you Rosebud & JennyJenns!

I'll hold off on being concerned for a while since I've gone through this so many times and am not interested in the treatments Western medicine offers. That should give me plenty of time to look into alternative treatments...

I appreciate the reassurance!

I'm not sure to which extent this has been studied, but there's also the theory (or fact) that if you've been on any artificial hormones (eg BCPs), they are stored in body fat and when you lose body fat, those hormones are released into the bloodstream.

Don't rule out the possibility that's it's not diet related - I had a really early one last year and I believe it was an anovulatory cycle. Not sure how old you are, but these happen as we age, apparently.

Hope things sort themselves out soon.
