Default Effect of Ketosis on Wound Healing?

Does anyone know if wound healing can be impaired as a result of a ketogenic diet?

My cuts take a long time to heal and leave marks as well.

I'm getting old, I think...

You think it has more to do with age than diet?

I'd really like to find a definitive answer for this

Have you had your 25(OH)D levels checked?
I found that correcting vitamin D3 status made a huge difference to the way my skin repairs itself.
Levels above 50ng/ml are required to ensure your body has sufficient to operate the immune system effectively although if you have a chronic inflammatory condition it may be worth going above 60ng/ml. Most people require 5000~6000iu/daily to achieve a level around 55ng/ml although there is considerable variation.

It is also worth making sure you have adequate amounts of omega 3.
Taking 1~2g of EPA+DHA daily should in about 4 weeks see a difference in circulating amounts although to see significant differences in tissue levels requires this to be continued for a couple of years at least and combined with a reduction in omega 6 intake particularly industrial vegetable oils such as corn, soybean, safflower and sunflower oil, and everything that contains them.

Studies have shown shortened healing times of skin wounds if a honey poultice is applied. It suggests sugar can speed healing. Whether a lack of it can slow the healing might be a stretch. VitD3 is a good idea regardless.

We had a few people here, long time low carbers, under go surgery and their doctors commented their wounds healed faster than normal.

For me healing is two to three times faster than before LC and age doesn't seem to matter. I had a broken leg & ankle heal in four weeks and the Dr's said it would take at least 12.

When I had carpal tunnel surgery, the doc told me to apply Vitamin E the the cut. Worked well, I healed quickly and you have to look VERY hard to find the scar.

11:15 – 11:45am Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Stress-Immune Interactions/Wound Healing
Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, Ph.D.
Interesting presentation here about wound healing, stress and omega 3 levels. The whole day is worth listening to but the for the impact on wound healing you need to be about 2hrs 10mins into the day.

Both vitamin D3 and omega 3 intakes are critical for control of depression and this impacts on the ability of your body to deal with pro inflammatory cytokines.

When I'm strictly low carb, wounds heal much faster than when I eat high carb.

Wound healing improves on a ketogenic diet. I will post some sites that will confirm this. Here is my favorite. It is about how quickly Native Americans healed after receiving very bad wounds among some other rewards of ketosis.
