Greetings to all the PP/PPLPers here on the lowcarber forum. I thought some of you might like to read a thread over on my "home" board, the topic is the same as the title for this thread. I also would likesome comments/opinions on my reply near the end (on second page) about the PPLP diet.

Thanks,
Larry

I am a purist in that I have a long list of things I
will not eat. I eat very few processed foods other
than the regular processing involved in extracting
protein from whey sources and the processing
involved in butchering meats, canning, freezing,
or processing vegetables.

I don't bring cheese into my house since
I feel like a world champion bulk cheese eater.

Same with Mexican Food, Pizza and all Fast Food
Joint Crapola.

I eat vegetables that are fresh, frozen or canned,
no bread, no potatoes, no sugar and flour products
at all and NO fried foods.

I don't even eat much fruit since I am capable of
binging on fruit too. I used to buy bananas but
a stalk of the big ones would last one day.

Food is not my friend. I eat what will keep me
alive and physically fit, and take several mineral
and vitamin supplements, but beyond that -
most all the rest is verboten.

OK, I'll toss in my opinion.

I'm probably considered a dilettante (always have to look up the spelling on that one!).

I don't eat processed foods other than cheese (occasionally bacon or sausage).

I eat only organic cage-free eggs, mostly because they taste so much better than the regular store brand.

I don't eat organic meats. Too expensive and too hard to find where I live.

I do drink alcohol, but am trying to cut that way down. Have only had 3 drinks since 1/1/06. I used to have 1 or 2 every night -- either wine or Irish whiskey or dark rum.

No sugar. No flour (except in gravies, and that's rare). No other grains like oatmeal. I dearly love oatmeal, but I tend to bloat from it.

I don't take all the supplements recommended, but I do take a high-potency vitamin (no iron), magnesium, and potassium every day.

So what does that make me?

Pretty much the same as Bawdy, except I only drink a couple of times a year.

Ooh, just found this thread...

I am usually a hedonist. There's turkey bacon, cottage cheese, some fruit, and two slices of low-carb, high fiber bread in my daily diet. And alas, coffee.

There's also sugar, not because it belongs there, but when I do cave in to a craving, it's always for a sweet.

Mark

Oops! Forgot about coffee. I drink coffee. Green Mountain Roasters Vermont Country Blend!!! Black. Sometimes, as a treat, I'll stop at Dunkin' Donuts and get a large Hazelnut coffee with cream and Sweet-and-Low.

Heaven, I'm in heaven!

I'm somewhere between hedonist and dilettante. Pry my coffee and LC beer out of my cold, dead hands; but I rarely eat grains or sweet fruit. They're an occasional treat.

I'm a hedonist for now, but theres always room for change!! My goal right now is to get this weight off..quickly..lol. I drink my diet drinks, but am thinking of giving them up at some point. I have 1-2 cups of coffee a day but am hoping to give that up down the road. I eat the good ol $1.04 for 18 eggs from walmart, though i wouldnt mind eating cage free, and have tried them a few times, they are better tasting...but expensive and i am cheap. I absolutely LOVE cheese, its my favorite food actually! Organic meat is so darn expensive, i just cant bring myself to spend so much, not now anyways! I guess i dont eat too well do i? but i am losing weight! yay! lol

I'm doing the Paleo (purist) now to see if that helps my asthma. Need to re-read the book again though. So, all unprocessed meats (not all organic since I can't afford it but some), wild fish/shellfish, very low carb veggies, eggs, and am thinking of doing the berry thing only in season. Have replaced my cream in coffee (so OK this is my treat because technically we can't have coffee) with coconut milk (which is the high fat one with 2 gram carbs per 1/2 cup so I use 2 tsps). Will see how my asthma does.

Of all the low-carb books, I LOVE Protein Power Lifeplan the best. It answers so many questions and explains so much about this life-style. The fact that they admitted that their advice on Canola oil was wrong, shows a very strong commitment to the truth, unlike some of the other medical/nutritional practitioners out there who refuse to admit they may have made a mistake when slapped with contrary evidence.

I am mostly purist but with no honey or fruit, no matter how pure it is. No processed food at all.

Heather, I don't know where you get your whole fruits, but it's pretty easy to get purist level non-processed whole fruits. Try your farmer's market.

Thumbs up

I'm not on PP, but if I were I would be a hedonist.

I'm reading the PP book right now. Really liking it. The Eades' have a ton of information that isn't covered in Dr. Atkins' book.
