Yes, vit D3 acts like a hormone and helps the body react to an infection with a healthy immune response, not an over reaction.

I use the analogy of an allergy like a peanut allergy. Most people can eat them with no noticeable effect, but some with a suspectable immune system hyper reacts, which can be lethal. Same with covid as I understand what I've been learning via material posted by MDs and nurses. Over reaction due to poor immune system is driving up severe responses.

Better to boost immune system to reduce over reaction and give it a fighting chance.

Zinc apparently needs quercitin, not sure on spelling, to facilitate transfer of Zn into cells for use. Green tea also via also helps with transfer.

We need to get educated about vit D3 , Vit C, zinc etc.......will be a while for 70% to get vaccinated, which will also help beat down this virus.

Recently learned testosterone levels, below normal, plays a negative effect on immune response. I'm going hit my endo with that question.

I'm not a doctor..... Dig into this your self.....become your own advocate.
