I supplement iodine. I swear by it. Every time I try to cut back I get a swollen thyroid that makes swallowing difficult and I also get itchy toes for some reason. When I have a cold or feel one coming on, I take an extra pill.

I began taking iodine about 7 years ago when my hair began falling out. After researching things on Dr. Google, I prescribed myself iodine. At the time, I was eating eggs every day so I didn't bother with the selenium. Not only did my hair stop falling out, but I had more energy and my arthritic fingers began to feel better. Hmm. Maybe there was something to all this alternative medicine after all. Gradually, I began to treat other long-standing issues and deficiencies in my body.

Long story short, iodine eventually led me to low carb. Turns out I need a lot fewer supplements now that I'm not eating those healthy whole grains.
