This is a significant problem stemming from the old assumption that one who is obese lacks willpower and discipline. It applies to all ages and is the primary reason why physicians (and everyone else) must understand why people have different results regarding food consumption and health. Those who can eat complete garbage and remain at a normal weight are presumed to have a healthy lifestyle. People must understand that some, when eating primarily high glycemic carbohydrates and processed foods, develop an addiction to foods that is both physical and mental. That when those people adjust their diets accordingly, they can achieve different results that are very different from the advice to move more and eat less. This is a significant roadblock today to develop the understanding of the powerful benefits of lifestyle changes.
