Here's another perspective, and I wish some journalists would follow up on this:

I work in food service. Most of our customers would be thoroughly SICKENED by how much food waste we create. Most of it is carby crap.

We have meat and animal products. They have an expiry time of 4 hours - 12 hours. We don't waste too much of that. And this isn't a food safety thing, it's a freshness/appeal thing.

These stupid new fake meat sausages and burgers? 2 hours.

If you're veg/*n for religious/personal reasons, cool. But if you think you're helping curb climate change or some nonsense by buying our meatless products... um, no. If you want to save the damn environment, stop spending your money at fast food joints and expecting all of your products available at all times... because the only way to do that is to create a horrific amount of waste.

Buy your own food at grocery stores and cook for yourself as much as you can. Eat real meat and use it all - save the bones for broth. Wanna go to a restaurant? At least go to one where your food is made to order, and there's far less waste.

Y'know, another thing about eating real meat and real food is that you're happy subsiding on 1500-2500 calories a day. Are you saving the environment stuffing yourself with the vegetarian crap on a bun that makes you hungry enough to eat 3000+ calories a day? Probably not.
