"Complications are generally things that result in more surgical intervention, or death, or something life-threatening."

Actually, what I've always heard for a definition of complication was something that resulted in a longer hospital stay or a readmission to the hospital. Repeated returns to the MD or outpatient don't count....nor, as you said, do the side effects.

I think what bothers me more is the idea that kids, teens, and young adults are being referred for the surgery! Most people continue to develop well into their 20's! The surgery, the resulting dietary deficinecies, etc all HAVE to have an effect on development!

If a fully mature adult, especially one who has "tried everything" and has diabetes, high BP, etc wants to have surgery, I don't have a problem there.....but a young adult or even worse a child? No way!
